What's the coolest thing you've found in nature?

Explained by astral_queen...

Two days ago I found a skull and some vertebrae that I believe belonged to a skunk. And in January I found half a mandible of a white-tailed deer! If you look at the picture of the skull I included and can tell that it isn't a skunk, I would love to know for sure what the heck it is!!! I did research but I could def be wrong. Have you found anything neat??

Top Comment

It sort of resembles a coyote or wolf's skull. Not sure though and I even looked it up.
Found a lot of these old bottles when I've been out with my metal detector. Hard to find them in one piece.

Oh well I guess you can't really do anything with a shark jaw, except dust it year after year. I know our countries are very worried about imports. I brought a dead decoration perana back but that was in my suitcase where nobody was looking.

Long ago in the countryside me and my cousin used to look for fishing spots, there was a shallow river where we found an old rusty and eroded grenade, it had a hollow tube in it where the mechanism should be but it was still heavy for its size.

Only if you live on the northern end of lake michigan. It is the only place in the world they can be found. The reason they can be found in driveways is, some of the gravel they used to use came from the lake.

I think in the first few months i was here, i made a post specifically about that porcupine.

Well thank you, she said as she blushed:].
Okay...short version....
First, know if you find a newborn porcupine, alone, it is likely a twin. Porcupines can only rear one, so they must abandon one if she has two.
Hmmm...maybe not so short...
Anyway, i was walking the woods, maybe six years ago....and by a log, i find this baby. So new that his quills were still soft. I knew nothing of these creatures, other than they can tear up a tree. Or a deck, or the corner of your barn.....
I looked all over for mom. Nothing. So i took the little thing home. Googled baby porcupines. Fed him kitten formula. He was the sweetest thing. Took just minutes for his quills to dry. Anyway...i tended to him for some time. He would climb to my shoulder and suck on my earlobe. And his belly! So soft. After a time, i knew that with my cats, dogs and myself, someone was going to get in trouble. So i found a rehabilitator. He was strong and healthy when i gave him up. Still very young. He grew to be a healthy adult and was released.

Carla nice story - I know a lady who runs a porcupine sanctuary in blue hill Maine. Seems there a whole bunch of wounded or abandoned porcupines, makes sense if they are only keeping one baby. It makes me sad there is waste in nature, but something will eat it. Maybe the ppines will someday evolve to have only one kit if they are throwing one out. I better go do research.

A death of a cod is merely a portal to another cod's dreams... Does this innocent child bare the memories of the previously clawed-to-death (as suggested) of the cod or some other cod, that had been playing basketball in a team part of the Cod Basketball Association?

Playing basketball on ice is something that never had crossed this particular cod's curiosity items (read: 31 brain cells). It had occurred to it earlier, that perhaps taking the hook wasn't the brightest of ideas, but... Never too late, but it was too late.

Nature it is all good. We always found cow skeletons cause all around here was dair farms, and an old cow is let out every day just like all the others, sometimes it dosen't make it home and there are so many cows and so many pastures the farmer will not know to go looking. I don't think they were killed by a wolf cause wolves were all trapped by the 40's

Seriously though. There was something between a puddle and a pond in the Rocky portion of the Sevier Desert. Was just after Sundown. Two of my friends and I had hiked in with a few supplies. Really not enough to camp. Started seeing lights in the pond. Wasn’t high. 2 beers maybe. But we watched for hours as these “ripples” glowing green and blue were all over the water. We slept there. The next morning we looked as close as we could at the water. Nothing. Just a big puddle. By 2 in the afternoon it had dried up to a fine silt. Ran our fingers through it.. nothing. Always made me wonder.
