It turns out our chances of getting hit by lightning are much greater than our chances of getting killed (or raped) by a member of MS 13 (you know, those 'animals' that are 'pouring across' our borders.) Apparently we should not talk about solutions to the MS 13 problem because that is 'fear mongering'. We don't want to over react to this statistically insignificant danger.

I seem to remember Dreamwalker posting about this band of people some time back and the impact they were having in his locale.

Well Bless Your Heart, Vic!

I am one of the people who mentioned the odds of getting hit by lightning and dying in a mass school shootings on Vic's previous post. And I did indeed (accurately) point out Vic's fear mongering. He misrepresents flat out lies when he says I am unwilling to discuss solutions. I did, however, (also accurately) point out that hyperbole is not conducive to meaningful and productive discussion on this or any other issue. I also (again accurately) pointed out that hyping the statistics and fear mongering is psychologically affecting kids and stated my opinion that do so is not only child abuse, but psychological terrorism.

I have repeatedly and consistently stated that the media, politicians, special interest groups, and individuals are hyping crime and fear mongering such that people truly believe things that just ain't so. Crime rates (and raw numbers in some cases) are down dramatically over the past couple of decades and even longer. For example, despite a significant uptick in murders in 2016, there were still 530 fewer murders than in 1971, and that despite an increased population of nearly 117 million. But who amongst you would have (honestly) said that you are less likely to be murdered today than in 1971???

Just an aside for those of you who like to hype lie about crime stats and odds and whose knee-jerk reaction is more gun control and banning certain guns and magazines...people really and truly believe that they are less safe today and that crime is constantly on an exponentially upward spiral because of all the fear mongering. And you know what the knee-jerk reaction is for a lot of them? To buy guns.

As I have also consistently stated, we should indeed try to reduce crime. In order to do so, we need to effectively communicate with each other. Hyperbole, skewed statistics, and fear mongering are not only not conducive to discussion, they effectively shut it down completely more often than not.

As always...JMHO

On Long Island, the chances of being murdered or raped by MS-13 members are much higher than being struck by lightning, Vic, you no-good, racist, uncaring, anti-Hispanic misogynist. (biggrin)

"On Long Island, MS-13 has been around for decades, but it has surfaced with a vengeance in the last 18 months, responsible for 17 murders, the Suffolk County police say. So far, federal officials have charged suspects in only three of the killings, including the murder in September of two teenage girls from Brentwood, N.Y., Kayla Cuevas and Nisa Mickens."

Well, I seem to recall some officers in NY being more interested in choking a guy to death on the side of the street for 'taxes' he may have failed to pay on cartons of cigarettes he bought from a store.

I completely agree that MS13 are animals, I only wish that law enforcement all over the nation devoted all their time to rounding up animals and none of their time acting as revenue agents of the state.

Frankly, I think our priorities are more than a little jacked.

Hey Vic, it turns out that the chances of David Hogg and his fellow anti-2A minions being killed with a gun by an NRA member, is ZERO PERCENT.

Eh yet you nuts on the left continue to blame the NRA for the actions of the LUNATICS who used a gun to commit their massacres....where you "intellects" should know that these people are FREAKIN' mentally unstable, therefore should know that if these mentally unstable people couldn't access a GUN in their quest to kill as many people as they could, they would have found/concocted another means of a weapon to KILL as many people as they could, as the Tsarnaev brothers did during the Boston Marathon using pressure cookers to create their bombs in their attempt to kill as many people as they could that sad day....eh yet you unicorn and rainbow nuts on the left ala David HOGG etc., still continue to IGNORANTLY believe that access to GUNS in our great country IS the REASON why these MENTALLY UNSTABLE teenage boys shoot up their schools, smh.

In response to “who knew?

Who knew what? Oh you mean the Obama Administration knowing via Russian intelligence telling the Obama Administration all about those Russian Tsarnaev brothers becoming radicalized Muslims, informing Obama of those brothers hatred of America as radical Muslims, and Obama doing NOTHING with that info because he led from BEHIND , and him not wanting to "offend" the Muslim faith, where he as our CIC could have prevented the Boston Marathon Massacre had he not been a liberal POLITICALLY CORRECT President of the USA.

In response to “Who knew what? Oh you mean the Obama...

No. I meant who knew that you would accuse me of blaming the NRA for school shooting on a post about MS13.

Who know that you would bring up a bombing committed by children of immigrants completely unrelated to the OP which is (again) about MS13.

And now 'who knew' that you would bring Obama, out of office for well over a year, into a discussion that we are not even having about a topic completely unrelated to MS13.
