I was so upset when I learned Flynn passed away. I loved his books. I've just finished Baldacci's "Ring of Fire" and "The Fix" before that and was disappointed.

I used to read Baldacci but didn't care for the last one I read.
Yes, it's a shame about Flynn! I miss him.

Baldacci starts out well, but the middle of the book slows to a crawl, and then the last 50 pages get interesting. There are too many books I want to read to waste time on a 500 page book that only has about 100 really interesting pages.

That I understand. Like the fool that is writing Clancy's books now. BORING!

I haven't read Clancy in a long time. If memory serves, he generally incorporates too many characters in his books for me to follow. If a story gets too convoluted, I lose interest.

The first person who was writing his scripts(Mark Greaney) did a fine job with them and they weren't so huge. But the guy that writes them now has no spark and they've gotten boring. I finally put it down and picked up a Michael Crichton book I haven't read. LOL

I haven't read Crichton. I'm a big follower of Harlan Coben, Lee Child, John Grisham, James Patterson, John Sandford, Brad Thor.

I think "Use of Force" is the title. I only buy paperbacks so it will be a while before I get it.

Thanks! Do you still have the books? If so, I can give you an address where you can send them and they will be included in care packages to the troops. If you send them "media mail," the cost is very low.

I don't think I could possibly pick a single book as my favorite. That's a helluva list they've put together.

On that list, I see many many favorites. Several of mine...
To Kill A Mockingbird
The Cather in the Rye
The Outsiders
The Great Gatsby
1984

In no particular order. I've always preferred The Body by Stephen King over The Stand, I liked The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand more than Atlas Shrugged and Animal Farm by George Orwell over 1984.

The Hatchet series should be required reading, in my opinion. Paulsen's a natural storyteller. Same goes for C.S. Lewis, absolutely brilliant.

One question, how did they make this list and why on earth is Twilight on it? Book sales?

Must be sales and popular votes. It's a mix of good literature and insipid pap. "Fifty Shades of Grey" is on there too.

My favorites from that list (albeit a bit specious):

A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole
Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
1984 by George Orwell
One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Other mentions:

Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami
The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco
Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace
If on a winter's night a traveler by Italo Calvino
