This small insignificant tribute is for those, like myself, who are members of Gold Star families. I will always remember you.

I lost my brother in the Green Hell, so I know what Memorial Day really means! Funny how an ornery shit like me did three tours and came home. Lest we not forget.

This is, without a doubt, one of the most exquisite pieces of music ever written. It has been my favorite piece of classical music since I first heard it played a the funeral of Grace Kelly.

We will always remember those who gave their last breath in the fight for freedom.

I wholly agree. How can such a piece on one hand, give you a vehicle for your personal grief, and in that same moment, rows of goosebumps

I've been out in the woods picking mushrooms, far away from the madness which is everywhere these days.

it's been a very good day
I took an Elder out there with me, they are 95 years of age
mind is sharp, it's the body that failing
I kinda scooped them up
gently sat them down in the truck, off we went
having never owned an umbrella, rain was forcast
the Elder had one, we took that
after arriving at the super double secret sweet spot
got a lawn chair , sat the Elder in it, ( I did all the picking)
I was picking in the rain while they stayed dried
1941, this Elder was 7 years of age
talk of who they with
what they were doing
even what they were wearing

they talk of the distant War... WW1
Life during WW2
they talked of Korea
Vietnam , Induring Freedom, Iraq, Afghanistan

some bitter sweet stuff
" I've buried my children, some from WAR, some from sickness
all my friends have moved on
I've outlived the doctors, thank you for today.

I said you have that backwards
I thank you, for the sacrefices made by those before me
I was just given the torch.

it was a good day

I was there for the opening of the Marine Corps Museum at Quantico. There were sea's of Marines....and I felt so small and insignificant brother. The absolute highlight for me was directly after the closing comments when others began to tour the museum. I went to the front and off to the left side, and shook hand with Gen'l Geo. Christmas. As I made my way to the rear, directly in front of me were a contingent of Navajo Code Talkers, in their bright yellow Marine Corps Jackets and Red Piss Cutters. If I can ever locate my photographs of that moment, I promise, I will send them to you brother.
