I've actually never gotten an umbrella in my martinis.. :-[

Martinis don't traditionally come with umbrellas they come with an appropriate garnish usually a lemon twist or an olive. It's fruity drinks like daiquiris that do. Maybe this person isn't 21 and therefore hasn't ordered a martini in a bar before?
