+317 The reason we can't describe how water tastes is because it is, in its self, already a taste. For example; watered down, amirite?

On the contrary. the term "watered down" is only used when describing another taste. Meaning that it (whatever is 'watered down') has a flavor, it just has less flavor than what it would normally have. Water does have a taste, but it has no taste that is relative to anything else due to the fact that water itself is made up of vitamins & minerals.

I agree with this more, ha.

The OP is kind of right though...I mean if someone were to blindfold you and give you water, you would know it was water because you couldn't taste anything. If you think about it, the only way you can describe how water tastes is through your other senses, like cold, or clear or something. If water has any taste it is probably because the water wasn't filtered or there is some other additives in it.

I have to disagree. If someone blindfolded you and gave you water, you would know it was water because you taste.. well, water. Water does have a flavor, you just, as I said, have nothing to compare it to. People continually say that water has no flavor, when it does. As I said, the only reason people can't describe how water tastes is because it doesn't taste like anything else.... and because most people can't describe a flavor without comparing it to another flavor. Thus, you are wrong. OP is wrong, in one way. OP is right, due to the fact that water is already a flavor.

The example I gave was wrong, but not what I originally posted for. I was trying to tell people that water is a taste. And watered down is a flavor because you taste water mixed in with the other flavor. And how is skr714 wrong? I don't understand your reasoning of them being incorrect. Pretty much what they said is what I said without the example I gave, that you would know that the substance you are drinking is water.

Sorry what I meant in the third sentence is "And watered down is KIND OF a flavor because you taste water mixed in with the other flavor."
