+960 Even if you don't think marijuana should be legalized, you've gotta admit that if the government was the only entity from which you could legally buy, the US economy would seriously be boosted up, amirite?

Voted no way b/c the gov't selling weed wouldn't help the economy; gov't is a money pit, not a money maker. I do, however, think it should be legalized.

Yeah but is it worth it? A lot more people would be high, and it would be partly the government's fault

People being drunk isn't the government's fault at all; it's the drunk's fault. People who smoke cigarettes won't get cancer because of the government; they'll get cancer because they made stupid choices. Anyone who makes the decision to be high will either handle it responsibly or will reap the consequences of their own choices.

if it was legalized less people would get drunk. drunk people are violent and get into fights. high people are just happy. would you rather walk down a street in the middle of the night and see a large drunken mob fighting outside a pub, or a friendly group of local potheads, smiling at you for no reason? You're neglecting that the economic costs of lost productivity would be... "high"

by Anonymous 14 years ago

If you come to work high, then you deserve to be fired, just like you would be if you came to work drunk. I see no loss in productivity from being high. Infact, you'd be surprised how many authors/poets/comedians/artists (musical and painters/drawers)/inventors use drugs for inspiration.
