+873 You wonder if British people sit around and talk in "American" accents, and instead of saying, "Do you want some tea and crumpets?",they say "Want a burger and fries?" and then laugh their asses off. amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Actually we just say 'OH MY GAWD!' a lot.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Only slutty girls and Southerners say "Oh my gawd." The rest of us mock them for it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Anonymous-er): dont mock southerners. they're like the brittish, they just have a differant accent. would you mock the british?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I would if they lived in trailers and married their sisters.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We do not say "oh my gawd"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Polly:)): And English people don't go round drinking tea and crumpets.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

From what I've heard from British people, they do drink tea a lot. And so do people from Ireland and Scotland.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Trust me, I'm English, and I don't know anybody that constantly drinks tea. It's the same as America. It's just steriotypes.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My friend visited Ireland and they always drank tea, and she's obsessed with England, and she said they drink tea. But I'm not totally sure she's right...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Trust me. Tea isn't that big of a deal over here. When I visited Australia and New Zealand it was bigger there.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Scotland is in Britain

by Anonymous 11 years ago

We do not say "oh my gawd"a lot. That's only in the inbred areas up north thank you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Polly:)): I thought the inbred areas were down south? Oh, wait, that could be wrong... north NJ does have the Jackson Whites...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Don't bash New Jersey. We have fucking guidos that will tell you off. LOL JK guidos are all wussies. =]

by Anonymous 13 years ago

LOL I only got to read that first part in my e-mail notification, and I was like "Oh HELL no!" I hate guidos SO MUCH. If I ever see one, I'm gonna fist pump their face. And yes, I live in NJ. But the comment about the "Jackson Whites" wasn't meant to bash NJ. My dad grew up with a few and said they were actually very nice people.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

seriously though, do you do anything like that? i'm honestly curious, because a lot of americans try to imitate english accents. yes, i'm aware that it's an english accent and not a british accent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This post made me laugh. A lot. I do wonder if it's true...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I am american, but my fencing coach is British and he always makes us laugh by using his "american accent''

by Anonymous 13 years ago

we do!! ahahaha but we don't really say the burger thing.... just random american phrases.. so much sexier in american ;)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

what are some american phrases?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ummm... "Cool beans," "truly epic," "that's messed uuup," "dude, wassup?" and various others.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

haha :) made me laugh :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

cool beans? awesome!!! :D i love english accents <3 even though we're terrible at it, my friends and i always try to talk in an english accent ^.^

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i have never once said any of those

by Anonymous 11 years ago

When I do an american accent, I always say "do you want to go to PROM?" or "shut up, JERK!" I'm from Ireland btw.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Those work too. Or also, "No I don't want to go to prom with you, creep!!" and "no, YOU shut up b***h!" ;-)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

hahaha the shut up ones are so true and hilarious! but what's with the prom ones? you guys have seen too many high school comedies

by Anonymous 13 years ago

lol, i'm american and i'm wondering why you guys all ask about prom? i think that's really funny...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh yeah, and when I talk in an Irish accent I usually say things like "Those kids are always after me Lucky Charms!" and "They're magically delicious!" :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Is lucky charms a breakfast cereal or something? :p I don't talk like a leprechaun, I talk more like Seamus Finnigan from Harry Potter :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Indeed it is.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Do they not have Lucky Charm's cereal in Ireland? That's just... just not right...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Do British people think it's totally awesome to have a real American accent, because English people think that British accents are Awesome!!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We do.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, they would laugh their "arses" off lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, but when they pronounce it it's the same thing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I have a British friend (born in U.S.A.) who says yes indeed they do and by the way cool beans

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(armadillo ninja): :-)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha. I'm originally Australian and when we visit my cousin back home in Perth, they always ask me to say things like, "Cool Beans" and "O my god" and even " She sells sea shells by the sea shore"! Then they try to imitate it and it cracks me up. Then we go around town talking in American accents and they ALL think we're faking it, including me!! :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Heh heh. I'm Ameican, and where I live a lot of people say cool beans. Well, used to, it's kind of phasing out now. Some phrases I hear a lot are "That's sick" (Translation: That's awesome!) "That's insane!" (Translation: That's wicked!) and "That is so epic! (Translation: that is even more awesome!) it actually pissed the hell out of me when people say "that's epic" an epic is a long narrative poem. STFU.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

American* typing on an iPod is the worst :(

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But . . . I like tea and crumpets.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I laughed at the long narrative poem thing xD I'm from Florida, and we don't really have any cool things we say. We're so boring D;

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I have to disagree with you lol. If you're in Miami like me, then we definitely have phrases influences by hispanics and African Americans: "Oye papi chulo!" "Das what's up" "Oh snap gurl" Btw, this isn't meant to be a condemnation on any race, it's just typical to hear it here :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't live in Miami, I live in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Here like all they say is "You feel me" which I hate, and "Broski" but I see people say those from other states so I don't think they're that unique.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm American (from Washington) and a lot of people at my school describe awesome people as "stud/ly" and "beast/ly." I don't know if that's just us or if everyone else does it too... My mom says cool beans all the time! Not that many people my age (15) say it though. I spent part of my summer with a family in London and they did generally drink tea rather than coffee...but not excessively or anything. I loved the clotted cream and scones!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm from England and I hate tea ugh! Also me and my mum pretty much only communicate in bad, fake Texas/South American accents :) I work in Mcdonalds so i'm always saying burger and fries!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Turks probably drink more tea than the British. Just saying.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hell, I probably drink more tea than the British. lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm British and for me and and for everyone I know tea is an important part of normal life. If u go round to any family members house the first thing they do is go make a 'cuppa'

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That made my day.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think everyone here agrees it's more fun to talk with an accent you're not used to.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The only thing truly American I hear is "ooooh he carried it!" What does that even mean???

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Canadian accents are more fun, eh

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My personal fave is Scottish.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah we do do this quite a bit

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hahah I always do American accents snd Enhlish ones too.. I'm from Northern Ireland but no one seems to like to mock our accents apart from ourselves lol.. :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Are you kidding me?? Your accents are some of the most fun!!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

they are called chips, get it right you stupid yank!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

But if you're trying to do an American accent, you'd say fries not chips
