That's because you are probably flipping burgers. Finding out unknown, variable information using what you already know is key in almost every respected job.

Point 1: Well, until you've experienced "later life" you can't //possibly fucking know// that. Point 2: It's true that some exact lessons in calculus or trigonometry aren't going to be used in your adult life. However, it's still necessary to learn them. They teach you advanced problem solving skills. Deathelf touched on it; they help you develop a way of thinking that will help you in most problematic situations throughout life. Finding X using information you already have shows you how to get around obstacles for the best result in a problem at home, work, anywhere. So....sit down, shut up, and do your homework. Three keys to success right there.

I haven't reached that age where i can look back and say that was useful, but my current impression is that history has a lot to do with how people live in general and people ought to know their history in order to form better opinions on subjects like politics and economics
