+9,378 "George Washington was the first president." OK, I'll buy it. "There are billions of stars in the galaxy." I believe that one too. "Columbus sailed to the new world in 1492." He sure did. "Careful sir, the plate is hot." I'm going to test this one out for myself, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i do a similar thing in chemistry class

by Anonymous 13 years ago

or, "wet paint."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Best post ever.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i dont get it?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

OP is saying that whenever someone tells you something you usually believe them. but if they say something is hot, you touch it anyway.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i take this opportunity to point out that you are quite clever

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yea, too bad they didn't think of it. the best posts on here are not original.. it's sad

by Anonymous 13 years ago

george washington technically wasn't the first president he was the first president after the constituion John Hanson was the first president.... just saying

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ah, a smart person. They consider him the first president because the Articles of Confederation SUCKED and very few people liked the government at that time.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

amen, amen, amen.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Whatever

by Anonymous 13 years ago

wow. you're just looking for an excuse to look "smart", now aren't you?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You are correct sir.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

lol yes but they only say that so you can't sue them when you burn yourslef :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yupp.. Murphy's Law

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I thought that was "Anything that can go wrong will."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Curiosity killed the cat... or in this case burned the human

by Anonymous 13 years ago

and satisfaction brought it back :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, but you stated obvious facts before, then you stated a strangers opinion. I would try it out.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Columbus was not the first one to sail to the new world, the natives were there first... just sayin'

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Common Sense): but the post doesn't state that he was the first one to sail to the new world..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wait, he was the first one to sail to the new world! The Native Americans walked there, so he was the first to SAIL there, just not to ARRIVE there.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

nope the vikings were. they sailed to Canada's coastline. I was just pointing out to "Common Sense" that the post doesn't specify that Columbus was the first, only that he sailed in 1492.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The Vikings are touch and go on that subject. Some historians say Canada, some say Cuba, and others say around the US. You're correct, but I felt the need to point out that he was *in some people's opinions, not all* the first to sail there. The first comment said that it was wrong. I pointed out a technicality.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Um... too*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No its to.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i believe he's referring to "I believe that one to" as in the mistake

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, it's too. hahaha =)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

WE do this because we can prove whether or not the plate is hot for ourselves. But we cannot prove for ourselves that Columbus even existed... so we just believe it because everyone else says he sailed in 1492.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

ohhhhhhhhhhhhh i get it know ...its funny im one of those people who always fall for whatever

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm pretty sure I've seen this phrase before...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

he (columbus) actually didnt go to the Americas, he landed on some island and thought it was america.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

NOOOOO DONT DESTROY MY BELIEFS!!!!!!!!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well he was ACTUALLY looking for India. not America.. so how could he think it was america? he thought it was India.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

To be perfectly honest, he never once believed it was a new continent. He died still believing he had reached India. It wasn't until much later that people discovered the error. Also (for anyone that's curious) America was named after Amerigo Vespucci. he did not name it after himself, though, but a German mapmaker named it. If you don't know who Amerigo Vespucci is, Google it, because that's all I got!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah.. that's what I said, he landed there thinking it was India, not a new continent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

thats actually true

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah thats why he called the Native Americans "Indians" because he thought he was in India

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hahahaha this is funny (:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

U.S.A, a place where people believe the moon-landing was fake and wrestling is real :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hahaha I never noticed until now that nyou pointed it out and your so correct XD!!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

TOO******

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So this comment conversation has basically turned itself into a discussion about Christopher Columbus. Understandable.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

actually Columbus made it to the Bahamas. Vikings found North America.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There's arguments about that one. Many people believe that, others believe the Columbus/America story and that the Vikings found Iceland, Greenland, and parts of Canada.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They have also found evidence of China discovering the west coast.

by Anonymous 13 years ago
