-101 Girls under the age of 18 shouldn't be allowed to get abortions without parental consent, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If they can legally have sex without their parental consent, they can deal with the consquences however they choose without parental consent.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

that's a dumb argument. You can do anything without parental consent doesn't mean you should. Most if not all medical procedures need parental consent, abortion should not be different

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I never said anyone SHOULD get an abortion. I said they should be able to do it without parental consent. No one can tell a woman what she can or cannot do with her own body. If the government starts placing regulations like that on a woman who is pregnant than women become nothing more than baby producing beings with no real worth as human beings. They won't get to be people; they would only be used to produce babies.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's kind of an extremists view of what could happen but I agree with you

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I never said anyone SHOULDN'T. I said they should have to have parental consent like every other medical procedure. If you want a boob job, kidney transplant, open heart surgery or whatever your parents have to give consent. Technically you're not a full grown woman ( though you may look like one ) if you're under 18, you are a child so your parents should still have the final decision in major decisions.

What if her parents are extremely pro-life, but the girl or the baby has a minimal chance of survival? Explain to me how that's worth it

by Anonymous 12 years ago

then she should take them to court but that is extreme situation and I don't think any parents would risk their child's life.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It shouldn't be up to the parents to decide if their child is ready to have a baby. If a girl isn't ready, it shouldn't be anyone else's decision but hers.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Of course, if a girl isn't ready, she shouldn't be having sex. Although there are circumstances where it is beyond her control, such as rape. Or they are careful but end up getting pregnant anyway.

So girls shouldn't have sex unless they are financially, emotionaly, and physically ready, as well as have help and a steady job and a big, safe, clean enough house to support a child or three since she could have triplets or twins. If te girl doesn't meet all of these qualifications, she shouldn't have sex. Now that's a bit outrageous. That's like saying that the only reason to have sex is to have a baby. I know this is pretty gross, but scientific research has been done and it shows that human females are one of the only species who have a clit, which means that sex is pleasureable for her. Evolution has made it so that sex is something to be enjoyed, not just something to do with the goal being to conceive a child.

No. I never said that. The majority of the time, though, pregnancy can be prevented. There are birth control options such as the pill and condoms. However, I should have specified that if a girl isn't ready for a baby, she shouldn't have sex where there is the potential for pregnancy(such as unprotected sex). And why would anatomy be gross?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The only 100 percent sure way not to get pregnant is to not have sex. Condoms can break. The pill can sometimes not work. Having sex can always lead to pregnancy unless you're infertile, have your tubes ties, or aren't having vaginal sex. Unprotected sex simply increases your chances for getting an STD or getting pregnant. I guess I'm just more squeamish than you.

I'm so tired of people saying that if teenagers aren't ready for babies they shouldn't have sex. What about married couples who aren't ready? Should they not have sex either?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Right, I'm 13 years old and I think I'm ready for a kid so no one should be able to stop me? Or if you're 16, living at home, and making minimum wage working 25 hours a week you're parents should have no say? That logic is so flawed. If you are a child you should not be having a child! We have parents for the reason you have so clearly demonstrated: our brains are not fully developed and we think pretty damn selfishly.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

( Obviously some adults are not mature and think only about themselves but generally they are supposed to )

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Maybe you ARE ready for a baby at 13. People can tell you what they want but nobody should be forced to or not to do something like that. The parents should have a say, but if you are physically capable of having a child, you're old enough to make your own decisions. That is your opinion. You're right, at 16, our brains aren't fully developed. But does that mean that you shouldn't have sex until you're in your twenties? If you're calling my argument selfish, I would appreciate it if you would explain how, because I don't see it.

My point was actually more along the lines that parents need to be aware of what's going on in their kid's lives. But my view has changed a LOT since I wrote this. Dunno how it got homepaged so long after it was originally posted, something like a year and a half ago. But, anyways, y'all have fun discussing it!

It's one of these pro life vs pro choice debates again ..

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I have to agree...I mean you have to have parental consent for tattoos and piercings and pretty much any other medical procedure, so this shouldn't be any different. I had my son at 19 and I knew I wasn't financially stable, but I made the choice to have sex, so I took responsibility for my actions. I have a friend who got pregnant at 16 and she wasn't ready so she gave her son up for adoption. I'm against abortion unless it's life threatening to mom or baby or both..
