+170 Religion is way better than Atheism. Religious people have heaven to look forward to. All that's waiting for an atheist is death, oh joy. amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not afraid to be wrong about god. Being cristian gives me a purpose in my life, and hope for after death. It doesn't matter if I'm wrong about heaven because, by the time i would have realised it, i would be dead antyways. Just let us be happy, and you can go on being pessimistic because you can be if you want to, I don't see how it affects me.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And so, Atheists will be the ones living as if, literally, there is no tomorrow. People with religious beliefs will just be living their lives waiting to die in order to attain happiness. Which seems more pessimistic to you? o.O

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I get how you would see it as waiting to die, but I'm not. I don't want to die as much as any other person. It's just a comfort. Actually christianity can give you an obligation to be a good person. I think its the only good point kierkegaard had. So, are you saying that you get to be rude and mean because we'll all die anyways? (and please please dont push the bible thumper christian steroetype. That would just made you look retarded. Just so you know 99.9% of chirstians are not like that.)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not that we can be rude and mean. . . I mean, even if we're not given any obligations by a God or religion, atheists and agnostics do have morals. Living life to the fullest can mean anything you want- I just find radical Christians to be more dangerous than non religious people. And yeah, I do see what you mean, and it's good to have your comforts and everything. Believe what you believe if it makes you happy :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Really? I say everyone has nothing but death to look forward to x_X

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Atheists are realists, not pessimists. We take the world as we see it and beleive things that have been proved. Pessimists are the ones who beleive in a wrathful, old testament God and live their whole lives in fear of Hell.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think I love you:)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well said!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Lol,so what your saying is that only religious believers are pessimistic? That's what I get from "in fear of Hell", because no atheist would believe in hell nor heaven.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

*proven

by Anonymous 13 years ago

if you only believe in god because it gives you hope for an afterlife, then you don't really believe now do you?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Awesome

by Anonymous 13 years ago

At least we don't have any Hell to be afraid of, either.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wow, I'm so jealous. How do you know what happens after death, anyway? Do you have info you're not telling us about, buddy? :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm an athiest and I have tomorrow to look foward too, and I'm happy on making my life great instead of being so gullible to look foward to death just so I can spend eternity in "Heaven". Even if there was a "heaven" whats so fucking great about it? You have to live there forever.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well heven will be awesome.. you never know, there could be pink unicorns running around. or you get to see all the people you misss and love

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This post reminds me of Pascal's Wager; that a person should bet that God exists, because he has everything to gain but nothing to lose.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

pascal's wager has a huge flaw, if you belive in God and your wrong, you jsut wasted your entire life doing stupid ass rituals and believing in a lie instead of living. its negative

by Anonymous 13 years ago

oh, the controversy :]

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm atheist and proud. I believe in living for life on Earth, for the 60-70 years I have here. Just because you believe in something, doesn't mean it's true. Everyone wants there to be a heaven. I also want to believe there is a brand new Ferrari in my driveway... but there's not. Yeah, maybe there is a heaven. Maybe. But I'm not going to just hope there is, and not enjoy life because there *might* be something better when I'm dead. And even if there IS a heaven, according to some religions, you might have to have eternal damnation. What if god rejects you? Down to the fiery pits of Hell! Just live for now. Because if there isn't a heaven, you'd have wasted your life praying for one.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well said!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This post reminds me why I HATE the Christian faith. It's so oppressive and they all believe, unconditionally, without legitimate evidence, that they are right and will typically refuse to listen to another's point open-mindedly. And being Atheist doesn't mean not believing in an afterlife, by the way. I believe that we all go to the same place after and I am AN OUT AND PROUD ATHEIST! So, I think the poster here should continue to judge, unknowingly. (:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

though i agree with you, an open mind is exactly what religious people have, to be open to all radical ideas. a human being should have an active mind, not an opened or closed

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I suppose you're right on that point. But their minds are closed to scientific matters.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well, according to Christianity, death=going to heaven. So what, exactly, is the point of this post?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

nooo its if you live a good and 'pure' life you go to heaven. But if you live a life full of sin you go too hell. apparently...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

False. Everyone's lives are full of sin. But not everyone goes go hell. Why? Because we believe in Jesus. There's no such thing as a "good" life. Everyone screws up.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

so EVERY christian goes to heaven is what your saying. even all the pedo priests and mass murderers. just because they believe in a wizard

by Anonymous 13 years ago

From what I understand, the idea is something like if you really believed in him, you wouldn't do that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This is true, although it does happen. But if you claim to be a Christian and you're a mass murder, I seriously question your faith. The key is realizing you made a mistake and being legitimately sorry.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

but the christian bible says its ok to kill people, i dont know where your getting ur info from

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Where? I guarantee there's an explanation for it or it's being taken out of context

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i just got told this from my Religious Education teacher...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's a common misconception, but a misconception nonetheless.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Uh no. This is no misconception. It flat out says in the bible that it is okay to kill and to even offer up your daughters to be raped by angels. Hm. Good 'ol Christian behavior.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Where? If you can't give me a reference I can only assume it's taken out of context and/or misinterpreted. P.S. angels don't rape

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Would you like to bet on that? Genesis 19:1 And there came two angels to Sodom... 19:4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, ALL the people from every quarter: 19:5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. 19:8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.....they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door. You were saying?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, two angels came to Sodom, but they weren't the ones doing the raping. They were the ones the men of the city wanted to rape. I believe it says that in verse 5. Lot offered his daughters to the men of the city so the angels wouldn't be raped

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Its just sad that all these atheists are so demeening of christians and say they have their heads up their butts when really atheists are the idiots.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Calling all atheists idiots is quite a generalization...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Im an atheist, but I honestly dont care if someone believes in God or not, its your life & choose... Just dont jugde others badly based on the bible because that really bugs me. =P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

choice*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What exactly would you consider "legitimate" evidence?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

At least we aethiests lead a more meaningful life not praying each day for something that might not even exist

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Atheist=belonging to no religion. Because its all bullshit. Only way anythings gonna get done is with GOOD 21ST CENTURY SCIENCE, bitches. Go to hell. Oh, whoops. I mean, rot in a swamp. :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You know, people, you can believe whatever the fuck you want. Just dont shove your filthy Beliefs down our throats, and stop preaching at us. Us damn proud atheists arend gonna fucking convert. Quit pressing your so called faith up our ass and expecting us to do nothing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You also have to worry about hell so good luck denying drugs sex and all the most fun things in the world so you can pretend your living forever after you die

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah, keep telling yourself that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm atheist and Life is so awesome, I don't need to have believe in a God to enjoy life. I always have tomorrow to look forward to, and thats all i really need. I'll enjoy life and make the most of it until my time is up.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

When their is a war over athiesm and not religion come talk to us.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

To reply to OP, I personally don't look forward to heaven or simply rotting in a grave. I'd rather make the most of my time living instead of speculating.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm pretty sure things like this are getting posted for the very reaction that most everyone had. There have been quite a few of these lately. :/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What a selfish reason to believe

by Anonymous 13 years ago

who says your going to heaven? and what if reincarnation is the true "afterlife" and you end up as a squirrel, then get hit by a car

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The beauty of reincarnation is that after the car, you're something else.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

like a rat

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Excuse me. I do not look forward to a glorified place of . . . bland worship for eternity. I look forward to reincarnation. Simply being religious does not imply being Christian

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well if you reallly knew what reincarnation was about, it was so you can go to a bland place to worship for eternity no matter how many times it takes.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you clearly do not study the same beliefs I do. Do not presume to know what I believe.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Everyone has different hopes of what heaven is like, I have no clue where you got the idea of 'bland worship for eternity'. But I wanna ask you a question. I am not trying to say anything against your religion. What exactly happens in 'true spiritual enlightenment'? After being reincarnated and finally gaining it, then what?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you become one with the universe. it's . . . hard to explain properly, as I'm not exactly good with words in these matters.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How come every Hindu and Buddhist I've ever asked can't answer that? :/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

because it's not something that can be accurately described. Sure, we put names to how we feel, but what about those feelings that don't have a name? That 'blah' mood that isn't depression or boredom? it hasn't got a name. Nirvana is just Nirvana. That's the only way to describe it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And I can't my faith into something like that. No one can truly explain Heaven but everyone at least has a great idea in mind. As opposed to Nirvana

by Anonymous 13 years ago

*sigh* it's like trying to explain how Onsen aren't exactly hotsprings or bathhouses to people who don't know firsthand. It's indefinable to the non-followers. And I never said I was Buddhist or Hindu.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I saw a gravestone that said: "here lies an atheist. All dressed up and nowhere to go."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This comments are why a lot of people don't become atheists.Do you guys realize that you just made yourselves look like completes idiots who think they own the universal truth and anyone who doesn't think that they posses the truth are complete morons who waste their lives?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well said

by Anonymous 13 years ago

whether he does or doesnt exist is none of your concern both atheist and christians should stop judging and shoving there religion down peoples throat not all of them do but alot of them do so just live a happy and peacful life and will just see what happens in the end ,will just see who will be laughing then so don't bash people if they pray to GOD ok just live your damn life and try to be as happy as possible

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Might I interject here on behalf of the Pagans, who have religious beliefs AND believe in living life to it's fullest? I am Asatruar (Norse Shaman) and I beleive in a lot of places to go after life (Valhal, Sessrymir, Hel's Realm of Bliss, or you could even be a guardian spirit if you wanted to be) but just because I believe death isn't the absolute end, does not mean I put my actual life on hold while waiting for it. Monotheists are the ONLY people who build their religions based on Fear. Polytheists and most Atheists believe in empowerment, not groveling to some undead overlord for forgiveness every time we take a shit.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

exactly, Fullkonnigrkona. One of the reasons I decided on atheism and not Christianity was because (among things like gay/lesbian relationships, and the improbability of it all) I didn't want to be controlled by anybody. If you are a true Christian, then every great thing you do is because of "God." Not because of what you did, or the effort you put into it. And I think that's bullshit. I just want to live my life to the fullest and not put any responsibility or blame or pride into some "God" that I don't even think exists. I'm not here to try to convert Christians to atheism. I just want to say my side of the story, without sounding like a rude, swearing moron, like other comments here.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't like to have high hopes. It leads to disappointments. So I'd rather think that I'm gonna just die and nothing happen. That way, if God is real, it's like "Holy shit (no pun intended) this is awesome!" and if it isn't, it's like "..."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I spend my life thinking about how I can make it better and enjoying myself. You spend your life preparing for the next one.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I believe that morality is part of the human experience and something to be embraced and celebrated. And I am enjoying every moment of my life here on earth, and I'm damn grateful for it. I don't need to prepare and do good things just for the sake of a heaven to make myself feel good. Death isn't that scary. I won't be conscious, so I don't worry about it much. Like the comment above, you're preparing for your next life. I'm enjoying every moment in this one.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yaay heaven, now I can dick ride jesus for all eternity.
