'scuse me while I kiss the sky
I think it's safe to say that by the time we're a teenager we can determine if we're going to do anything substantial with our lives based off whether or not a cyborg from the future has shown up and tried to kill us.
I won't pretend like I know the answer of how to prevent school shootings... But I think the fact that the best solution a lot of people are proposing is "stop the guy from killing too many kids" is probably why you'll be dealing with school shootings for a long time. I hope I'm wrong.
Reminds me of a quote.... The only rule that ever made sense to me I learned from a history, not an economics, professor at Wharton. "Fear," he used to say, "fear is the most valuable commodity in the universe." That blew me away. "Turn on the TV," he'd say. "What are you seeing? People selling their products? No. People selling the fear of you having to live without their products." Fuckin' A, was he right. Fear of aging, fear of loneliness, fear of poverty, fear of failure. Fear is the most basic emotion we have. Fear is primal. Fear sells.
The 'things' you perceive are not things at all. They are a collection of possibilities each with different probabilities. Do not make the mistake of assuming anything you perceive is just as it seems.
"Public safety demands logical gun laws but the issue is so polarizing and emotional that little will be accomplished as there is no common ground. The NRA and its supporters want easy access to weapons, while the left wants them banned. This is the price of freedom. Violent nuts are allowed to roam free until they do damage, no matter how threatening they are. The Second Amendment is clear that - Americans have a right to arm themselves for protection. Even the loons." - Bill O'Reilly
I get what you're saying but i think that's part of the evolution. Similar to how words like retard or bum when referring to mentally handicapped or homeless people are no longer acceptable. Some words just develop a negative connotation after being used a certain way for so long.
