So true. Find a racist kid and you will find racist parents most of the time.

I don't think it's only "taught", I believe it is also "learned", by life experience. If you grew up being bullied or abused by blacks, mexicans, asians or whites, you might feel you have beef with that entire race. If you live in a situation where you are experiencing racism on a daily basis, by blacks, mecicans, asians or whites, is your anger against the other races racism, or simply a learned response to what you face day to day?

Yes own experiences can teach us to think a different way just as easily as an influential person in our lives can.

That's very true! I've been mugged twice and shot at once. All by people of the same race. It did have an impact on me.

Sometimes, when someone is repeatedly abused by members of a particular race and grows to mistrust and hate them, it isn't racism. I'ts a learned response brought on by members of the race responsible. Racist is just a word often overused these days to condemn some people who speak out about the real problems.

I think I said members, not an individual. If a person goes to a predominately black, or white school for example, and he or she is the minority in that school (be it black or white) and they are harassed or threatened because of their race my many of the "majority" race, they will learn to dislike that race.
This has nothing to do with who is responsible. It has to do with perception.

Again...talking about a handful..out of potential millions. Individual vs a graduating class...you're still talking a drop in a bucket. No one has ever been mistreated by an entire race of people. I get where you are coming from though and accept it's the reality of human thinking that people judge what they don't know based off what they do know. Which they are more than entitled to do. I don't see a person that does that as having racist tendencies. But when it comes to a point that a person sees a person that is different and because they are different they think they are less entitled...then past experience or not that is racism. There's no other way to define it .

Everyone bases their judgments on those they have encountered.

If a person has a bad experience with A German Shepard, they may not like German Shepard's.

If a person from the country has a bad experience with New Yorkers, they may not like New Yorkers.

So your comments actually agree quite well with the thought of the post. Racism isn't something you are born with. It's the environment around us that ingrains it into us. Be it the influence of those that guide us, the experiences we live through that guide us. But the fact that our minds discern the people that caused the experience by the color of the skin is pretty much what defines a racist tendency. It's a shame that people live through something horrible enough to lead their mind to think that way.

And I've gone back and forth with you on it but I totally get it...I've had racist thoughts before. Emotions get the best of me sometimes and I can easily generalize an entire race because of what one person did or said. I know it's not right though...best I can do is remember they are a person the same as I am.

Sorry..got way deeper here than I probably needed to, lol. I'll stop before Stevie Wonder pops up and tries to lead us in We are the World.

I'm not sure what the picture you linked has to do with racism, Janet.

The dead woman pictured seems to have been a victim of the Viet Cong, who routinely used terror against Vietnamese who didn't agree with them politically. This particular atrocity was part of the Dak Son Massacre, perpetrated by the Viet Cong.

Dak Son is not nearly as well-known as My Lai, because Dak Son does not fit the liberal media narrative.

Good points Tink. We often hear of American atrocities but rarely hear about the brutality of the VC.

No reason to like or dislike a specific group without experience. Where I grew up there were lots of Crips and Bloods. Who I believed should be nuked. At the same time my best friend was black.. though he was labled an "Oreo", black on the outside and white on the inside. I will never judge a person by the color of their skin. I will sure as hell judge the content of their character. I am also very aware of the "group think" theories. And in many cases they are correct.
