“It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.” ~Ursula K. Le Guin, The Left Hand of Darkness~

Explained by JackHenryKraven...

A groundbreaking work of science fiction, The Left Hand of Darkness tells the story of a lone human emissary to Winter, an alien world whose inhabitants can choose -and change - their gender. His goal is to facilitate Winter's inclusion in a growing intergalactic civilization. But to do so he must bridge the gulf between his own views and those of the completely dissimilar culture that he encounters.

I'm glad you asked since not many are clear on this topic.

You are planning to visit your mom...that is your destination.

So you leave at 8 in the morning - on the way you meet several people plus an old friend, whom you have lunch with and reconnect... This is called the journey...

While it was nice to visit your mom...your journey and remeeting your old friend are definitely highlights of it...which makes the journey important...especially since you didn't expect it to be.

I agree. Even if there is no end or the conclusion is not as previously planned, the journey can teach you a lot and make you more mature and ready for other challenges.

The emissary to Winter should notify the DNC. They'll bring Winter's inhabitants into the fold! They're a triple threat! They're aliens. transgendered, and live in a fantasy world!

This quote reminds us also that the "journey", the path, the learning process, or the different phases of evolution are all important.
Somehow, we should not worry too much about the future, but about the present day:

It is the Journey and those we meet along the way that enrich our Life in so many ways that make the Journey worth while in the end.Even those who cross our paths and Darken them by causing us Harm teach us another Life Lesson and in that process we ourselves are enriched by Wisdom.

My journey has meandered around the country quite a bit, but I have enjoyed most of it and appreciated all of it. I don't know where it will end, but I hope to see and experience a lot more and enjoy more good friends along the way.
