The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts

Perception. I've seen fools and wises both struggle with confidence, and employ self-doubt. However, I have also seen wise people sure of their convictions as they have their wisdom to back them up.

The whole problem is that nobody knows what the words mean and some people feel offended when you point out that they are not saying what they think they are saying.

Take for example "whole problem". What you say is not the whole problem, there are many more unrelated problems just as hard to put up with. So we let that word go by as a meaningless intensifier.

IOW there is a hole in your sentence. You could have said "the fascist problem", since nobody knows what "fascist" means either. You could have said "the spang problem". You could have substituted any meaningless term.

This process goes on until we have an entire dictionary of meaningless words, and nobody knows what anybody is saying, but by god they are ready to die for it!
