I also get what you're saying here but personally I find alcohol consumption as a higher priority due to its tendencies to be part of problems in the city. Yeah someone can be obese, but that's not going to have a negative effects on anyone else

They're fighting obesity, not alcohol abuse. Since soda consumption is probably more prominent than beer consumption, I'd say that this is a sensible priority. On the contrary, I don't agree with this ban in general, because I love soda.

Do you mind having the guts to not say it anonymously? And yes, I do still believe it's true. It was a tragic event, I know, and I think it's just as terrible as the next person. But 11-17 million people died. Along with that, their future children and grandchildren died as well. If they were still alive, we'd have a lot more people.
And haha, telling someone to kill themselves for expressing an opinion that doesn't agree with yours is so intelligent and civilized. What a reflection of character. I applaud you, good sir. I applaud you.

America is indeed influenced by Christianity. Gays cannot marry in most places because it is a sin against God. Abortion is morally wrong because it is murder. But opening the doors to our country unquestioningly and without hesitation to help the tired, hungry, and poor, (you know, showing mercy and compassion) even when it conflicts with our own interests, is still re-goddamn-diculous, amirite?

Yes I understand all of that, and I agree with everything you said. However, my post is addressing the hypocrisy of ignoring all of the positive aspects of Christianity (love, compassion, forgiveness ...) while focusing solely on the negative ones (intolerance, judgment, spite...) and still claiming that the Christian influence is a good thing.

Ah. The world just makes so little sense sometimes, doesn't it... It's often because the people who focus on the negative aspects don't consider them to be negative at all, but as such, it is simply their opinion. They have the right to be hypocrites. And if you were to try and take that right from them they would agree with you, but then oppose you. It's idiocy at its finest.

Sorry for delay, but yes I have to agree, religion and government shouldn't mix.
But democracies themselves don't go out of their way to pick a religion. They are influenced by their people, more so than any other type of government, whether it be representative or direct. A democracy reflects the will of the majority. If you wish to disagree with the majority, then I stand by your point. But democracy is not the problem. Gays cannot marry NOT because it is a sin against God, but because the majority of the people believe it to be. It's all based on the perception of the majority.
