oh, so you knew him personally?

In response to “oh, so you knew him personally?

First of all, by that logic you could only have made your first statement if you knew him personally, which I doubt you did. Also, you don't have to know a person personally to assume that they aren't greedy ****, especially when they were public figures, just like John Lennon was. Judging by his personality, my first statement made much more sense than yours.

No, because he's dead. But if he weren't he could just go cry into his huge piles of money whenever things felt hard.

John Lennon wasn't at all the type to go "crying into his piles of money whenever things felt hard".

I think the biggest reason it annoys me so much when people do this is that I'll get excited that someone in my grade likes the Beatles, Rolling Stones, or whatever band is on the shirt they're wearing, but when you ask them about it they never care about the band so your hopes are ruined

Paul McCartney played bass, far from underrated.

To be fair though, he's known for his signing and songwriting for the Beatles, not really for his bass-playing

Especially when they're actually doing shit. I never really noticed the bass parts in songs until I started playing bass. Also, in the song "The Real Me" by the Who, John Entwistle played the bass part as a joke during the first take and they kept it in the recording that made it to the album. There are some pretty good bass riffs in that song.

The bass in "The Real Me" is really good though! I think it's the best part of the song

My 1st grader cousin told me this joke but it was hard to hear her speaking over her laughter:
Q: what's a cow's favorite movie?
A: A cow's favorite movie is a cow's favorite movie!

I've lived in Manhattan my whole life, and most of the people are middle class. Yes, there are very rich people, and yes, some are very poor, but the majority fall in the middle.

This is a quote by George Gobel, and I'm pretty sure he did stand up comedy at some point. Chances are, this is a joke. Just saying.

I actually find that listening to the Beatles can be a gateway to more music from the time period... I know a lot of people, including myself, who heard about bands like the Kinks and the Zombies after listening to the Beatles

I don't get why you'd want someone young-ish to die when they still make a lot of people happy, really

No, they have similarities, which you are thinking of. They are both succesful music groups, but while One Direction made songs that were in the top 10 charts, Beatles revolutionized music as a whole. They paved the way for any modern musician today. One Direction has computer generated sounds made to sound like instruments, and their voices may or may not (probably are for certain notes) be digitally enhanced. The Beatles relied on creativity and talent, not on their looks. If they wanted an echo, they would rely on the acoustics of the room.

The Beatles might not have gotten hate over the Internet, but they did have radios refusing to play their music and large groups of people around the US burning their records. The Internet isn't the only means of hate, is what I'm trying to say.

I don't really agree, just because the Beatles were the band for several years, and the game that they had had never been reached by any other band before. But now, One Direction has just as much fame as, say, Justin Beiber did. Also, there's a difference in creativity and talent and whatnot, but I think the main difference here is just how popular each group was and is

Catcher in the Rye. The greatest troll of all time became an influential literary critic for the sole purpose of convincing everyone that this meandering, pointless novel was remarkable art, thus forcing millions of people to have to read it against any sane person's judgment.

I know that a lot of people who've read the book hate Holden, but since I loved both the book and his character I never really got why. Could you maybe explain? I'm just curious.

Basically, a ship is short for relationship. Shipping something means that you think the two people/characters should be in a relationship together.

I think that when people say that something's overrated, they usually mean that it's been talked about to the point of annoyance. I personally hate how people compare the Beatles to everything, but they're one of my favorite bands.

I don't know how "controversial" these are, but here goes:
-I'm technically Christian, but I believe fully in scientific ideas and one of the reasons I stay Christian is because I grew up that way, I agree with many of the moral ideas, and because, in all honesty, I'm terrified of the idea of death and Heaven and Hell sort of take my mind off of the idea of nothingness.
-communism was a good idea, in theory at the very least
- it's ridiculous to judge someone based on whether or not they have taken drugs or were at some point addicted.

This is awful. one of the worst jokes i have ever read in my life, unworthy of even being considered for POTD. apparently the punchline is just subsituting the word sign for sine. when cheating, nobody looks for signs from above. Not at the ceiling, nor do they ask god, so i don't see how this joke makes any sense. also, if this wasn't a pun, there wouldn't be a triangle with the opposite measurement divided by the hypotenuse "above" in any sense of the word. I'm ashamed to have made this long of a comment for a post so hopelessly terrible.
