You used the wrong "to" in "too stupid to function." That's one time you really don't want to do that. Makes it too easy for the rest of us. :)

Do you believe in something you can't see?

OP wasn' necessarily talking about or tying to start a debate on religion.

In response to “OP wasn' necessarily talking about or tying...

I wasn't intending to start a debate either, but I thought it seemed relevant. Religion is probably the most popular example of believing without seeing.

Nobody knows everything. Life provides the experience for one to make an informed decision, or rather the most informed decision that they can. Experiencing something for yourself can change your mind about something, as can technological improvements.

Anyone familiar with the Monty Hall problem?

We have it in the US. It's interesting to watch and see people say its 50/50 when it really isn't. Even the host says it occasionally.

Should we resume whaling?

Absolutely not. Many species of whales are endangered. Commercial use is already unacceptably high as it is. A fair amount of research can be done without harming the whales. Whales are essential to helping balance the ecosystem.

Could we study cancer as a means of obtaining immortality in humans?

Maybe we could, but doing so could be a huge mistake. Mankind is already increasing in population, and immortality would only increase that, contributing to serious overpopulation problems. Unless we decide to live on the moon. Then it could be okay.

Is polygamy wrong taking in consideration that we accept same **** marriages now?

It is a preference people are born with, actually. There's people who grow up in polygamous communities who have polygamy forced on them, or see it happen so much around them they just do it themselves, too. Those people were not born like that. But then there's people who are in polygamous relationships on their own free will who report never wanting to settle down when they were a kid and dating multiple people at once when they were a teenager.

There are many cultures in different countries where polygamy or polyandry marriages are the norm. Our culture happens to be one where monogamy is the norm. In fact, only 1 in 6 societies enforce monogamy as a rule- there's a lot of debate if humans are naturally monogamous and polygamy is a weird thing that people just do because society considers it normal or if we're actually naturally polygamous and monogamy is a weird thing enforced by society. Either way, it doesn't matter- if everyone is consenting, no one outside of the relationship has the right to tell them they can't do that.

In response to “It is a preference people are born with...

Colebowl: I didn't know a lot about that. I was thinking a lot along the lines that someone gets married and then decides that they want to be polygamist, which would force a decision on the spouse. Or that they were just using polygamy as an excuse to have multiple relationships at once. If its known and consenting, then I think that I can maybe understand it being legal.

I believe that it is wrong, but that same ** marriages should be legal. Polygamy seems to be something that could easily be exploited and exploitative. Same ** marriage is a preference that a person is born with. Marrying multiple people is not a preference that someone is born with (to my knowledge).

Believing in something doesn't mean it exists, but not believing in something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Both sides have the potential to be wrong. Believing or not believing isn't a factual thing, and can't be proven during a lifetime. It's just a guess based on faith.

So people killing/stealing committing crimes for a product is the fault of the company for making something too helpful/entertaining? The other alternative would be making poorly made goods or not making things that people want.
