Explaining colors to someone who is blind is more difficult than explaining quantum theory to a 2 year old, amirite?
8 Comments +103 / 89%
I'm pretty sure the only reason you associate those things with those colors is because you've seen water be blue, heat be read, peppers be red, and the sun be yellow and that a blind person would no better understand colors from that explanation.

Not really, that was coincidental, i think. I could also describe yellow as the sound of laughter but i associate with touch more than sound so i chose examples one could feel. It kinda just turned out the things i chose were also the same color.

Blue is like ice cubes, red is like a hot pan or the taste of peppers, yellow is like the warm sunshine you feel on your face, etc. I could find others. To me, purple could best be represented by the feeling of thick velvet. It's such a regal, heavy, and smooth color...

To be fair though, most of the time you choose to take higher level math classes. For example, I'm in calculus this year, but my friends elected to take "the easy way out" and are in prestatistics.

My degree requires me to take at least 2 languages, but i'm going to take a third one as well. I really wanna be able to actually learn them and become pretty fluent, not just pass the class and move on, ya know?

I react to pain with laughter. Like sever pain, not just oh look I scratched my finger ouch, but last year I cut off almost half of my finger and I laughed so hard I started choking. My doctors think it's a psychological problem

I laugh when i'm severely afraid, but a lot of people do. It's a psychological defense mechanism. Your pain laughter could be a similar defense against fear. It could also be all the adrenaline.

Your identity isn't about who you associate with or who your parents are, but the life you live for yourself.

One definition of identity is "the characteristics determining who or what a person or thing is." Who can honestly say that they are not influenced and changed by friends or family? Identity is who you are, which includes every little thing that led you to where and who you are now.

That's totally true but what the post is saying is that John's identity is not simply 'the son of John's parents'. His identity is himself, John, who may have been a little influenced by John's parents.

I figure as long as you're not flaunting whatever you're doing or wearing, like "omg I'm such a nerd, I love playing video games while wearing glasses blarg" then I'm going to assume you honestly do like doing or wearing that thing and I won't think you're just following a trend.

It sucks when you see a work of art selling for thousands of dollars and you could have done it yourself, amirite?
8 Comments +106 / 88%
People don't pay good money for art because of how difficult it was for the artist to make it. They buy it because they like it. If i really liled a piece, such as that, which i do like, and i had a couple thousand dollars lying around, I would totally buy. Simplicity does not equate worthlessness.

It'd be a really interesting experiment to keep a group of lobsters in captivity and take every measure to make sure they are safe, then see how long they can live, amirite?
13 Comments +29 / 68%
For those who don't know, it's been hypothesized that lobsters are biologically immortal, meaning that they would live indefinitely barring disease and injury.
Most animals have a relatively set length of time they can live because their DNA is damaged every time their cells split. Lobsters have an enzyme called Telomerase that repairs the DNA when it replicates itself. As such, lobsters show none of the infertility or frailty that comes with aging that other animals do.

Faking a smile doesn't make you happy. Happiness isn't a full choice, but if you think it is, maybe go tell that to those child soldiers in Africa, or kids in North Korea who try to find bread crumbles on the floor all day to gather a meal together so they can survive.

I didn't say faking a smile, i said smiling in adversity. No one can suffer without it least putting a little dampening on their mood, but one can always find the light and remember to be happy about the good things. It's just a matter of attitude and a matter of choice.
