The past can change as long as your mind is legitimately believing the new information you're given. The past is as abstract as the future, maybe even more so.

You and your friend(s) are working together to eliminate the bodyguards in order to down the target (Black ball) and get away with the assassination. Each person has specific guards they must kill.
