You don't want to use straight calories to gain weight, because with a product high in calories comes lots of sugars and saturated fats and preservatives. The best way to gain weight, especially for athletics, is to get your calories from things that will also give you protein (certain fruits are great for that), and to build muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat.

I do know that pulpy fruits are much better than watery ones for gaining weight, such as apples, pears, or bananas.

I never directly meant that foods like pop tarts or such should have more calories. The direction I meant to take this was that instead of a product with lower calories, they should make one with natural, muscle and weight gaining ingredients, like nuts or fruits or some meats as a substitute for sugary foods
