It's stupid to lie to spare someone's feelings because they'll only get hurt harder later and they'll know you lied to them. It's not merciful to them, it's merely sparing yourself the trouble of giving negative feedback.

It's weird to imagine that, in a way, plants are able to see, smell, communicate, and have memories. Plants are really much more complicated organisms than we give them credit for.
