+336 The USA needs to start solving their own problems, and stop worrying about other countries. We can't truly help them until we've helped ourselves, amirite?

I'm sorry but the USA is only and always looking after ITS financial interests and if it's not for finance it is for image for future negotiations, as do most countries. I feel sorry for you Americans that believe the USA is helping everyone.

I feel sorry that you think everyone is so selfish. Altruism isn't dead just yet. :)

I'm sorry that you think the world is a nice place with everyone holding hands skipping down the street...

I'm sorry you think you can put words in my mouth.

Regardless of what you think my friend the world is a selfish place, the sooner you learn that the better

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Maybe you think that way because you're selfish.

Haha i'm far from it mate, but let me ask you this, when was the last time a country did something for no gain? You might say sending aid but that was only to look good in the eyes of the world for political reasons.

I'm talking about the individual. Sure, maybe the country has ulterior motives, but do you think that the people who are deployed and are actually getting their own hands dirty are so selfish? If you've never met a selfless person in your life, which I highly doubt, then I am sorry. But not everyone is out for personal gain as you make it out to be.

This post was not about the individual now was it? But yes not every individual is selfish but there are too many that are.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Do you think that all country leaders are also so selfish? Many are, but power does not always obscure altruism.

Power corrupts, the greater the power the greater the corruption.

We seem to definitely be more concerned with the homeless in other countries more so than our own. I'm in MS, and I didn't receive any foreign money after Katrina, yet look at how much American money has been sent to such places as Haiti - Regardless of the political reasoning.

These were two incidents under two different presidencies, so it's not really comparable. I'd say wait until a major US disaster happens under the Obama Presidency before you can really pass fair judgement. I'm sorry for your unfortunate case, though. :(

It's possible to help others while helping ourselves.

I think people just like critisizing ( definately spelled that wrong) the US. If we help out, we're meddling in other's business for political value. If we don't help, we're selfish jerks.

It's not all generosity ;) If we spend millions of dollars, say...rebuilding Haiti or something, then they owe us. And as long as they owe us, they're in America's power. This backfires sometimes, though.
