+606 Its an improvement that we have a black president. but the real improvement will be when kids learn about Obama and when it is mentioned that he is African American they wonder why that even matters. amirite?

You kind of went against the whole point of your post. Why is it an improvement in the beginning but at the end everybody is equal? If you want it to be so that people wonder why race matters, maybe you should first believe that yourself.

I think he means it's great that there's diversity, but it actually doesn't mean anything and people should realize that.

Well, to me personally it doesn't matter, but I am aware that it does to some people, so it is an improvement that even though there are still alot of racist people, the majority of the country doesn't care about race and votes for a president because they like him not because of his race.

But it could be argued that people actually voted for him because he was black. This would make race the issue again.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That is true, but there was also people who voted against him because of it. So yes, i do agree that there was a race issue with it, but the fact that he is our president is an improvement because in the past there is no way that it would have happened. But there is still room for improvement, which will be when race does not matter to people at all.

I dream of the day where everybody with darker skin isn't called African American because it is NOT a blanket term for anybody darker than you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

its not a big deal that hes black pres. its a big deal that he's the FIRST.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I just can't wait for the day when that will not at all be an accomplishment. When the color of skin won't be considered, much less noted. Although it's great that we have a black president, It would be greater if 1) He was in there through educated voting instead of people not wanting to look racist 2) He was a better president

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah I agree with you. He is a pretty bad president

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yup. You know he's not doing a good job when someone (my mom for example) advocates him like he has the cure for cancer, and then wants to punch his lights out a month after he's inaugurated.

People just seem to conviently forget that he is also half white! The fact that everyone seems to only mention that he is black could be considered racist.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thank you so much for saying this. So many people don't take this into account. Abe Lincoln was also half black. Why doesn't he count?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

but most of the people that point out his race are the ones that support him. . .

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Maybe it's not his race that bothers people, but the fact that he's taking this country to hell and back like it's nothing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thanks so much for understanding. This just goes to show that there are still some people in this country that do not want to see it get thrown away by obama.
