+995 The reason that so many Harry Potter fans (such as myself) don't like Twilight isn't because of the mentally insane fans but the actual story. And I'm saying this as, unfortunately, a previous Twilight fan. Harry Potter is all about inner strength, friendship, good conquering evil, facing your fears, and doing what's right, while Twilight is about the importance of having a boy toy, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes! You are so friggin right. You are so friggin right it's a redicilous. Why can't more people see that?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Amen. I too am a reformed Twilight fan. You know what saved me? I finally decided to read Harry Potter. (My mom read them to my brother and I as children...but I was just to young.) And you just summed up my thoughts perfectly.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah I agree but you have to understand that stupid teenage girls crave these types of chick flicks/books because of their hormones =]

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i am a teenage girl and i HATE twilight never liked it never will its so gay and pointless

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Shut the hell up! So what if it's a love story? Do you hate every movie that's about love? The whole Harry Potter vs Twilight battle is getting annoying as hell. You are not going to convert any fans, or change a damn thing. They're about as equally popular and both gross millions of dollars. So shut the fuck up about Twilight and Harry Potter.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Amen.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's annoying as hell because you know we're right.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, I'm a converted twilight fan. So these things are successful sometimes.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, Harry Potter has sold millions more copies than Twilight, and there is a huge difference between "love story" and as the poster said, "the importance of having a boy toy".

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I. Love. You.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

false: i converted my friend to a harry potter fan from a twilight fan

by Anonymous 13 years ago

HECK YEAH. Plus- robert pattinson is disgusting. Pale, hairy, and disgusting. and YO...^ wow don't have a spaz. HP fans, look my up on MYLIFEISTWILIGHT. Username: team.malfoy ;)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You are so fucking dumb. It is physically painful to read your post.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Im TeamDracoMalfoy123!!!! GO DRACO!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Its about time someone brought some sense into the arguement.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Im sorry, but Twilight is not just about having a boy toy. You clearly haven't read the book.. *Getting ready for the thumbs down*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What do you think it's about, then?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's a love story

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Love story ~= girl with boy toy

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It may be a love story but there are so many plot holes it's ridiculous. Every time Stephanie Meyer writes herself into a corner she pulls out something like "Oh...uhhh...I couldn't see that because...the werewolves were in the way. I can't see into the future when the werewolves are concerned. Don't ask me why." That and the fact that Edward is controlling and a little bit creepy. In my opinion.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Exactly! And it's also the writing styles, too. Meaning, J.K. Rowling actually has one. Not to mention that she was so creative with everything in her books, everything fit back together again, while Stephanie Meyer took a very common mythological battle and threw in a mortal girl.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually I HAVE read the books and they are about nothing but a boy toy. If she isn't with her boy toy Edward, then she's with her boy toy Jacob. And lets see, how often did she hang out with her friends from school? Oh right the one time when her dad made her? Yeah Twilight really has deeper meaning...psh.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

@276446 (x4everxlove101): I love both Harry Potter and Twilight, but I really dont see the deeper meaning in HP. Besides, every book doesnt have to have a deep moral and stuff, as long as it is entertaining and enjoyable to read.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You don't see the deeper meaning?! How the Hell can you say that you love Harry Potter if you don't even see what it's all about. It's about fighting evil and having loyal friends and how love conquers all. There is so much more to it then just wizards.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I actually like both Harry Potter and Twilight. I absolutely LOVE Harry Potter because it does have deeper meaning, and you get so entranced in the mystical world J.K. Rowling creates. Twilight on the other hand, is simply a fun read. I am perfectly aware the only purpose is for shallow entertainment, but sometimes that is all you are looking for in a book. Though, I hate the movies and how ridiculously this vampire craze has gripped the country. Hands down, I like Harry Potter more, and I resent that the two books are pitted against each other. But, yeah. That's just what I think. :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I can see how you would feel that way. I felt the same way a little bit ago. But eventually Twilight just cracked my nerves ahaha

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I do see the DEEP meaning in HP; I just dont see how its any deeper than Twilight. Twilight has all of the things you said "fighting evil and having loyal friends and how love conquers all" I'm sorry, but this Harry potter vs twilight discussion is so lame that I'm gonna forfeit and say you won.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, Twilight is a very good, entertaining story, and HP is really annoying. I can barely keep my eyes open when I watch it.... I can only watch it once because its not THAT good.... but Twilight i can watch as much as i please.... give it a rest with this fight though... EVERYONE HAS DIFFERRENT OPINIONS

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I've actually read the book... Not only does it have a bad story line, the writing is terrible.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, its about doing things for the one you love and always staying together.... IT'S A LOVE STORY HP FANS.... may not be your kind of movie, but that's your problem

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I read Harry Potter and I really liked it until she killed off all of my favorite characters. And I've read Twilight and even though I didn't think the writing in it was all that good, I read it in like less than a day. So they are both good series I guess, I just wish people would shut up about them because THERE ARE OTHER BOOKS IN THE WORLD TOO!!!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I actually disagree. I'm a fan of both. Except for the movies, I hate the movies. But I think Twilight shows girls what love is, and how guys that love you should treat you like a damn princess, and it teaches you sacrafice and the importance of keeping secrets and how to be a good friend. There's things in both books that are good. And if eliminate the vampire/werewolf stuff then a lot of it actually relates to real life things. Just pointing out, don't attack me! Haha.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Edward doesn't treat Bella like a princess, he abuses her! Also, Twilight does NOT show what love is at ALL.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

he does not abuse her. He protects her from random shit that could kill her haha. I'm sorry but I would have no objections to him protecting me from psycho vampires! And you can completely tell how much they care about eachother.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes it is obvious he cares about her, but that does not mean he can control her life to "protect" her. (Well he can, but we're comparing this to the real world here where a boyfriend should not go to these extremes) For example, tampering with her truck so she can't leave the house and see people he doesn't approve of. This is going too far and people should be clear that this book is not an example of a good relationship. It is an example of a good FICTIONAL relationship.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Please do NOT tell me that you really think Twilight shows what love is. If a nonfictional relationship was like Edward's and Bella's it would mean the guy was being possessive and controlling and the girl should get out immediately. This is what makes me afraid of the impact these books are having on young readers.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You have it all right! The relationship in Twilight is creepy and possesive. Girls should not dump their boyfriends just because they aren't like Edward. They should be glad that their boyfriend doesn't watch them sleep and follows them around.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think that you and I read a completely different book.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes keeping secrets from your family and friends just for a boy who could potentially kill you at any moment is a great moral for a story.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

He didn't treat her like a princess. He broke into her house and watched her sleep the night after he met her. They didn't sacrifice anything. Bella wanted Edward and to keep her family happy, done. Edward wanted to be with Bella forever but have her not be a vampire, but it worked out because she's the perfect vampire so it's like she's really human. If you remember correctly, no one actually kept a secret in this book. They gave subtle hints until everyone figured it out. And finally, you should not kill yourself over love. You should keep living because that's what the other person would have wanted if they actually loved you. Twilight did not teach us this, ergo, it is not a love story, but hormone fluff to read when you're home sick with the flu.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Nah, i just hate the fans and the actors, except for Taylor lautner ;)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I too am a once upon a time fan of twilight. I read the books and have watched the movies but all the hype about it is annoying. I'm just gonna stick with the classic Harry Potter.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I used to be OBSESSED with twilight... as i am ashamed to say. I agree with the person who wrote this post 100 percent, looking back i realize that twilight told me that being sad and depressed like bella all of the time is normal. When I began reading classic books like Narnia, and Harry Potter it made me see that twilight was just really pointless.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Harry Potter is a.... classic? Really?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This was on MLIA a long, long time ago...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Fuck potter fuck twilight, it's all cliché bullshit you obbsesive fans feed on just because it's popular, you're all sheep and why the hell would any one sleep outside a theater 5 days before a movie that's just stupid.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh, so we're sheep, are we? Have you personally met every single fan of these books to know that we're all sheep? Because I know some Harry Potter fans and I know some Twilight fans who are in fact are the very opposite of sheep. So, obviously, you haven't. Please don't stereotype people based on a book they like. It's rude and generally oh so very untrue.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Have you personally met me, no, so you can also hush up, Also I wrote that comment weeks ago, not even sure of that because i dont care and just make sure did you like read every single comment and decided, "oh i wanna shun this douche who has obviously moved on just because I think I'm unique for reading a book" because it's wierd you would choose to reply to my comment I made loooooong ago.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, and correct me if I'm wrong here, but I never said anything that could be offensive to you, so why should I hush up? Especially not compared to your first comment where you managed to use fuck twice along with bullshit and hell. Congrats. You must feel so articulate. Weeks? Try six days. I'm sorry if I'm not so technologically dependent that I feel the need to be glued to my computer every day of my life. And in case you didn't notice, it shows the date on the bottom of the post. Wow, articulate AND observant! And I'm rather surprised that you'd feel shunned that out of the 80 some comments I decided to politely respond to yours, seeing that shun means to avoid and stay away from deliberately; stay clear of. Isn't that the opposite of what I did? And how I was to know you had "moved on?" I'm not telepathic. Thank you, for putting words into my mouth for me. Pray tell, when did I ever say that I felt unique for reading a book? I reiterate: six days.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha wow bro you sound so gay. Your fancy little words mean nothing to me, check this out: I don't like twilight or Harry Potter, see what I did there I stated a fact of myself, which you can't change with anyhing you say. If you are so smart, as you try to seem, why are you having random arguments based on what you believe is right over the Internet with some stranger? Seems pretty stupid to me, and since you are The Genious of life or god or something, articulate that. I hate when random dochebags try to feel better than their pathetic lives offer them to, by going around and replying to a single comment while using dictionaries and resources to try to seem as if they can some how out smart someone over the damn Internet. So I am going to end this stupid bs, but of course since you are god you will reply anyways like a stubborn ass and REALLY bring our nerd-game on, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I completely agree! I used to a Twilght fan tooeek and then I realized it had a horrible story. Unlike Harry Potter which is AMAZING!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This was fucking gay. And all you Twilight fans need a life.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Twilight is not a love story. It's showing how weak women can be. Bella cannot exist as a human being without a male companion. She is never with "friends" after Edward broods himself into her life. He does not treat her like a princess. Maybe for the first half of the first book. Also, Edward decides what's best for her without consulting her at all and just straight up leaves her, taking everything that reminds her of him away, therefore making it harder to heal. So, in turn she goes straight to Jacob, who seems to treat her better, but winds up being a typical guy and playing on her sadness to worm his way into her heart. In Eclipse, Bella just can't decide just who to pick since both guys were "so great to her", so she screws with both of their minds and hearts. Edward starts acting like a possessive boyfriend, restricting her time with Jacob, her only friend in the series it seems just because he's threatened, which he has no right to be since HE left HER.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This is not a matter of which is better, Twilight or Harry Potter, it's just that Twilight masks a weak woman, two conceited men and a screwed up lust/possession triangle and calls it an epic love story.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

THANK YOU. I once heard a girl say Bella is a good role model for young girls! My response was that "BellaTRIX would be a better model, cause at least she knows she's evil." Bella Swann is a pathetic excuse for lead character; she puts feminine heros like Elizabeth Bennet and Jo March to shame. I'm so glad I was a teenager when I read these books, cause at least I could see this is wrong.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You are seriously like my hero right now. haha that is what i've been telling people for forever! The Twilight series is a pathetic excuse for a book and a waster of paper(:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

@3point1415 I totally agree with you but one of the reasons Harry Potter has sold millions more copies than Twilight is because it's a couple years older.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hary potter has not been sold more Copys then twilight! You are a retarded! Twilight fans are more smarter then harry potter so stop saying it's The other way around! Anybody agree?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not been sold more Copys. A retarded. I hope that was a joke because if you're trying to prove you're "more smarter" you just failed horribly.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Lmao, you failed miserably.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"more smarter"?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i was gonna say you said "more smarter" when a harry potter fan would have been smart enough to know its "more smart" or "smarter" who's smarter now?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

AH HAHA, you make me laugh. Twilight has sold 85 million copies, worldwide ( You can google it, if you want, it's even on Meyer's website) and as of June 2008, Harry Potter has sold over 400 million copies. Yes, Harry Potter is older but that number is from two years ago, and there is still a HUGE gap between those two numbers. And no, I am not "a retarded" By the way, I luvv ur Grammarz & Spelingss.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, I love Harry potter. Read all the books, seen all the movies, but I also don't mind twilight, I read those books & they are pretty good. I am going to the premiere for Harry potter at midnight. But I am waiting for eclipse to come out and DVD because I do not want to have to sit in a theatre with a bunch of tweeny twihards listening to them moaning, and squeeling. PATHETIC.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah,go Harry!!!! This is sooooo going on MLIA.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I guess I am some sort of weirdo because I love both. (Although, I can't stand Edward.) I don't know why people compare them. They are so different. Twilight is a love story. It just so happens some of the characters are vampires and some are werewolves. HP is an action/adventure story about a wizard and his friends. They're entertaining in two completely different ways. I just don't understand why people feel the need to argue about them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

ok guys seriously, shut up with the whole harry potter/twilight thing. I love the HP series and i love all the movies, and i like the twilight series but the movies aren't really that good. I dont care what everyone else thinks, but im tired of everyone arguing over which is better! I know all of you twilight haters are saying twilight is unrealisitic, but seriously, a good book doesn't have to be realistic!you guys all love HP , but its not realistic either. They use "magic." I'm not saying i don't like it, but what I'm saying is that if you don't like a book, don't talk shit about it before you even read it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(OhMyCottonSwabs!): So..I have read both..does that mean I CAN talk shit about Twilight? Because I really enjoy bashing it(: and the reason we argue about it is because its frustrating when something as amazing as Harry Potter is shunted to the side for something as STUPID as Twilight.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This horse has been beaten so many times. =/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think the insane girls add to the dislike, although twilight is a good story and very vivid, Harry Potter blows Twilight out of the water

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I have never heard anything more true. I tried to read Twilight when my friends recomended it and I stopped in the middle of eclipse because after the part where Edward Proposed, I fell asleep; and then proceeded to fall off the couch. Harry Potter is a great series, and it has meaning and figurative language and everything that makes a good story. It also has great characters with personality. Twilight fans, Bella has the personality f a blank peice of paper. Therefore: Potter>>>>>>>>>twilight

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Exactly. I long time back, I read the books RIGHT when they came out before any of the screaming crazy Twihards/Twimoms exsisted and they weren't BAD. No where's near how amazing J.K. Rowling is but they kept me entertained for a few hours.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I went to a book premiere for Breaking Dawn, and there were 3 people there. Why? Because no one heard of it or cared. You want to be a dedicated fan, be there for the beginning. The release party for the 5th book of Harry Potter (no where near the last book) sold out all their books 8 months before the release date (they ordered 100,000) and it was on the news. That's dedication.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

the summary for ALL the twilight books: hi. i'm bella. i'm emotionless. i found this guy. he sparkles. he also doesn't have emotions. he stalks me and watches me sleep. i think i love him. although there's tons of other humans out there, these gay vampires are trying to kill me. never mind, we burned them. nooooo edward don't leave. oh jacob, even though you're two years younger, i think i love you too. this chick is trying to kill me. these two guys are in love with me. which one's hotter? whatever, i'll get married and have a kid with edward. the summary for harry potter: WAY TO FREAKING LONG AND COMPLICATED. ( as a good thing ) :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

hahah thats the funniest summary ever. and yet it gets everything important that happens in twilight. which isnt much. hahaha

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i try. :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

has anybody thought of just liking both of the books?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yes. i have and i do. so all the haters on both side should shut up!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, a LOT of people dislike Twilight because they never gave it a chance. They judged the series on what they saw of the movie. I will admit, as a Twilight fan, that I too, do not like the movies at all. But the story Stephanie Meyer thought up, was brilliant. But I am also a fan of Harry Potter.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Harry Meyer Fan): I don't like how a lot of people base their opinions off of the movies but I've read all the Twilight books and all the Harry Potter books and I just don't like Twilight. It's the characters, the writing style, the lack of imagination. I'm not like some people though, who feel the need to harp on the fans of books I don't really like but I do feel that I can voice my opinion on both only after reading all of the books with an open mind.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Being a teenage girl, i think it's safe to say i'm a fan of the twilight BOOKS. but i'm a much bigger fan of harry potter. any one get that special/weird feeling while reading a harry potter book? no other book does that, so i gotta say, although i'm a fan of both, harry potter deffinately takes the cake!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I dissagree with liking the Twilight books. but I completely know what you mean about the special feeling with hp! I love re-reading them(:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I am a fan of both, and although Harry Potter is just better, Twilight isn't all that bad. What teenage girl wouldn't want to have an Edward in their life? Someone who loves you no matter what and protects you. Twilight shows how love can conquer all.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree with Bridget, though I think that both are as great as each other. Why can't everyone just stop comparing them. Everyone likes different stuff, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There is no competition between Twilight and Harry Potter in the writing department. J.K. Rowling pwns in that category. Although I agree that Meyer's writing is nothing compared to Rowling's, I still like both. Yes, Harry Potter has deeper meaning , but it's scary how addicting Twilight was when I first started reading it. It's pure, entertaining fun. But if you truly think about it, how can you ever compare the two? Ones about vampires and the other's about wizards. How the hell do they connect? I think part of the reason why people hate Twlight so much is because it's mainstream and over-promoted. Harry Potter fans are lucky it isn't like that for their series, because it would push the first fans away eventually. It's always like that with everything. You feel special when you like something that's not really getting credit for its awesomeness, and when everyone else starts to obsess over it and like it, you start to hate it. It's the never ending cycle in pop culture.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I am also a converted Twilight fan. I reread Harry Potter and realized just how much better the writing and the multilayered plots are. Twilight is also a terrible influence for teenage girls. Bella decides not to go to college just so she can marry her stalker boyfriend and then have a baby when she is only 18. Harry Potter is about courage, love, friendship, loyalty, and overcoming struggles. Twilight is NOT a love story, it is an awful romance novel. Harry Potter is a love story: the whole point of it is that love conquers evil and hate.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I like Harry Potter but I like the House Of Night Series better than both of them!!!!!! I <3 H.O.N

by Anonymous 13 years ago

seriously? you cannot actually be a former twilight fan and think this. Both Bella and Harry and all the other main characters are likable and have depth. Don't demean something that has worth just because you're into the majority.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm sorry, I didn't know you knew me so much better then myself. Why, if you say I wasn't a former Twilight fan then golly-gee I guess I wasn't! I'm not trying to bash Twilight just because I think Harry Potter is better, I'm pointing out the obvious. Bella actually doesn't have much depth, she's clingy, whiny, and very male dependent. That's really all there is to her. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to anger anyone, this is just what I think is obvious, which to others, it may not be. But I do respect other peoples opinions. What I don't like, however, is people telling me things about myself. I used to love Twilight before I stopped to think about it. You don't know me.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I diasagree, Twilight is about finding love and familiy and friends and Harry Potter is amazing to and has all off the stuff you said. But the first person to ever compare the 2 books and start all of this was a douchebag they have nothing in common other then they are both wildly popular

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Stephen King said that exact same thing!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

These comments all gave me cancer.

by Anonymous 10 years ago
