+440 Making abortion illegal won't stop women from getting one, it just makes it more dangerous, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It actually would reduce the number of abortions.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But increase the number of deaths from abortion. But how would you know if it actually decreased? Women who get back alley abortions and people who are part of them won't admit to it. They could get arrested. They only have estimates.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Things would be soooo horrible if abortions were illegal. So many babies would be born to people who simply can not take care of them

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Maybe you shouldn't have irrespnsible sex... unless you got raped, then abortions are fine

by Anonymous 13 years ago

plus we have a population problem anyway....havnt you people ever thought about that, we are gonna reach 9 billion ppl in the next century

by Anonymous 13 years ago

oh yeah...so lets just start a holocaust! killing people off totally solves that problem.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

not saying to kill people off, but if you pro-lifers had it your way and nobody got abortions at all, we would have bigger problems because eventually theres not gonna be enough earth left for us and them mass quantities of people die anyway from more horrible things like famine

by Anonymous 13 years ago

see I disagree. Generally in any european/american country people can tell you their is no shortage of food, seriously, i don't think you can say that if you've ever been anywhere that serves food, look how much is simply thrown away! I don't think this world is gonna end out of resources before it ends...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Our population is supposed to increase to 50 billion within the next 100 years-thats just going at our current pace.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

correction 9 billion, still a dramatic increase nonetheless

by Anonymous 13 years ago

@852999 (Renegade): so uh, murder is justifiable?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't think reducing the population is a valid argument...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well were are on the verge of popluation problems already. If every single woman who got prego was forced to give birth, the population will skyrocket. There would be more babies than people willing to adopt. There are places in China where you are limited to only having 1 or 2 children, why do you think so many asian babies get adopted? The success rate would also lower with the heightened population and lower income families.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

this argument is pretty bullshit, it's like saying making pot illegal wouldn't reduce the number of stoners.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Pot IS illegal..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It would probably reduce abortion a lot but, I'd rather see ten women getting a proper abortion than one woman attempting a dangerous amateur abortion. Besides in some cases abortion just is the better way to go, although in most cases I'd personally discourage it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'd rather see ten children have a chance at life than one woman attempting a dangerous amateur abortion.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, good for you. It's an issue where I can completely understand the oppositions feelings because it's such an emotional subject, so I don't really mind and I don't feel like starting a comment war.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm cool with that. :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Can someone say, "accidentally fell down the stairs?!" lol. Also, in response to slim shady's comment about our resources, yeah, they actually are dwindling. Not just Americas either, all around the world. Making abortions illegal just makes adoption higher, it happened with chinas "one child" policy... Except instead of these babies going off to live happy little lives withfamilies who loved them: they were literally rotting in their own feces at foster homes because there were too many unwanted babies to take care of. Rather then seeing this, and blindly wishing upon a happy ending for this babies who ARE given up to adoption (obviously disregarding the fact that a lot of babies who are given up for adoption suffer a lot more then you would think) in my opinion, I say get the abortion. Cause if someone has their mind set on it and it's illegal? They'll turn elsewhere: aka, alcohol, a swift punch straight to the babymaker, or stairs...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yes yes yes...And the Alcohol/stairs thing-people dont realize that people would do that and it may not even kill it, there would be deformed babies being born, thats just horrible.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sometimes it's actually necessary to get a abortion, if you were in a situation where the baby is already dead and it puts you in harms way to deliver it then a abortion is a good option. And I would rather have a abortion than have my child grow up abused and neglected.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We are not having population problems. We have over 7 times the amount of food needed to feed the planet as is, and there are so many new ideas for production/ energy that the only problems are social and political, not number. Also, this population loss is killing our nation, we've lost over 14 billion in downstream tax revenues already (over TWICE the national debt), and that's not even counting the loss in consumer demand. Also, the baby boomer generation is retiring and the Congessional Budget Office has estimated that tax rates will have to be raised by 82% just to keep social security and medicare from going bankrupt. And newsflash, the only reason that abortions are "safer" now is because antibiotics have been introduced, the methods are the same as if you'd been getting a back alley one. Just keep your knees together, god.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think there should just be stricter laws on it, but it shouldn't be completely illegal. I would only allow abortions under certain circumstances, like if the woman was raped or being pregnant was life threatening.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

*trillion

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I personally care more for the life of the teenage girl who wants to get the abortion than the "life" of the 6 week old baby she wants to abort. Not to say that every abortion is done by teenage girls but a lot of them are because hey, they make mistakes, we're human, we do that. Just imagine if you were in that situation, you completely fucked up, you were desperate to get an abortion so that you could continue living your life and abortion was illegal? You might even opt for a back alley abortion. It's a scary situation and you can't condemn a girl because she doesn't want to have that baby. Keep abortion legal is all i'm saying.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i agree. also, in the case of a rape, and the girl get preggo, and shes like 13 or something, she could die having that baby. why would we want that when it wasnt even her fault?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Amen to that!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How bout instead of just killing babies, people learn to close their legs or at least use a condom! That would make an impact on population increase.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What if the condom breaks, or they're raped? The baby doesn't even feel anything or think until after the first trimester, which is when abortion is illegal [most of the time]

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I didn't say that would solve everything. I said it would make a difference. I think in extreme circumstances, such as rape, abortion might be the only choice. But I find it absolutely disgusting that people just go around having unprotected sex and use abortion as their ticket out of a mess they put themselves in.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That disgusts me, not gonna lie. But still, why should everyone that maybe makes a mistake suffer because of some disgusting people like that?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why don't you keep you MOUTH closed?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's like stem cell reasearch and physician assisted suicide. Its going to happen either way. At least it would be regulated and have to meet federal guidelines if it was all legal.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What is wrong with stem cell research. I can see how you might think a baby is human but how is an old umbilical cord human?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Nothing's wrong with it, I'm actually pro for all three of the topics mentioned.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Mistakes happen, but they do have consequences. So yes, even people who make mistakes should have to face the consequences of their actions.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So if a 13 yr old has sex and gets preggers, she should potentially risk her life?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

why is a 13 yr old having sex in the first place?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If a 13yo is having sex, chances are that they have a poor home life. High probability that they were raped/molested as a child and don't have boundaries set because their own were crossed and not re-established through intensive counseling. This set-up is most-likely the product of lazy parenting, and guess what a 13yo with a bad example is gonna do....the same damned thing, have half the knowledge and experience a parent should have in order to raise a productive member of society.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Exactly. As @855070 mentioned, she probably had an awful childhood. She wouldn't truly understand what she was doing, nor the consequences. Since the child would technically be a mistake, the girl wouldn't take the correct steps to make sure it's healthy, assuming she'd give it up for adoption after the pregnancy. Or, she'd get a back alley abortion or simply use dangerous "home remedies".

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So we should punish women for having sex?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Mistakes happen, but they do have consequences. So yes, even people who make mistakes should have to face the consequences of their actions.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Getting an abortion is a great way of dealing with the consequences.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

People who get abortions feel the effects. Sometimes they go through mental instability. Granted, most of them recover, but for a period of time, they feel regret. Not all do. Some do think they made the right choice, and even those that feel regret usually believe they made the right choice, but still.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I didn't mean to imply that women who chose abortion don't feel the consequences, and I have no doubt that they do.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes. It sucks- lots of things in life do. But that doesn't give anyone the right to end a life on their own terms.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes. This is why old white men in congress shouldn't be able to dictate the rest of my life that can be completely derailed by a defective condom. I don't share their beliefs, yet they're deciding whether or not I should have the right to complete the life I've planned and worked so hard for.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

AMEN!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Kill all the lifeless bundles of cells!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How do all you pro-lifers feel about that burger you're eating? Giving undeveloped cells more rights to life than a living breathing being (mother or animal) is disgusting.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

A cow has more brain capacity than a fetus.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I have the right to my opinion, and the right to voice it. So no, i won't just keep my mouth closed. And nobody is "punishing women for having sex." it's a natural consequence that sex sometimes leads to babies. That's just basic biology.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You are intentionally going out of your way to make women who have sex suffer. Sex doesn't have to lead to babies. There are many different types of sex and many different types of birth control. The fear of pregnancy is no reason to not engage in sex.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not saying don't have sex, I'm saying be safe about it. With birth control and use of a condom pregnancy is highly unlikely. And no, I'm not going out of my way to make anyone suffer, i'm going out of my way to give babies a chance at life. People suffer, we don't just let them do whatever they want to avoid suffering. Late for work, gonna get fired? By all means, run over that pedestrian. Poor? Rob a bank, it's fine.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Have you seen the US government? Do you really want those people in charge of your body? Do you really want them to have the power to control you life and family?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

To say that making abortion illegal is putting the government in charge of my body, life, and family is an absurd leap. They would have no say over what I did with my body except that I couldn't abort a baby. That's like saying that letting the government tell me I can't pump heroin into my viens is giving them control of what I can and can't do with my body. Let's try to be reasonable.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well...I borderline agree with you there. Borderline. Something one could argue is how drugs affect you AND the people around you, while an abortion only affects you. It doesn't impair your judgment.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It affects the woman's partner in some cases, and he doesn't always have a say in the matter.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The woman's partner shouldn't have a legal say in the matter. Neither his body nor his life is a stake.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Prohibiting someone from doing heroin does not infringe on that person's ability to get an education and a career. The same cannot be said for abortion.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not saying he should, my point was that it DOES affect other people. It was in response to katfro's comment. Adoption is always an option. So it wouldn't necessarily affect those things. Schools and companies give appripriate time off for pregnancy without it affecting their career/education opportunities. And the point of the heroin example was the 'control of your body' issue you raised.
