+256 The AVATAR directors totally copied the name from the awsom show on nickelodeon; avatar the last airbender, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, no. Avatar is a word used to describe something used to symbolize a person in a situation in which they cannot be present (a bridge between two worlds, if you will). Thus your picture on a site like this is your avatar, or avvie for short, an Avatar is what Aang is, and what the characters from Avatar use. As the dictionary puts it, "an incarnation, embodiment, or manifestation of a person or idea". It's actually a common idea that first came to be known widely through the movie Avatar and to a younger audience through the series Avatar the last Airbender. Also, the movie was concieved in 1996, long before the series even released its pilot.

good lord we didnt ask for a freakin dissertation. When people heard "avatar" before the movie, they immediately thought of the (awesome) show. Thats all they meant.

Avatar isn't a made up name, its a word in the dictionary. It has been used online for a long time for an image that represents you. In the film avatar they use Na'vi bodies to represent the humans who use them. Im going to assume the last airbender uses the hindu origin of the word - the descent of a deity to the earth in an incarnate form or some manifest shape; the incarnation of a god.

Being a fan of the show, I want to agree, but the commenter above me are correct about the definition of 'avatar'...

Well, the name wasnt copied, but i'm pretty sure they made the same print though. like, the same A and R font, but I havent seen either in a while.

Uh, no... James Cameron had the idea for Avatar for years. The only reason he didn't make it sooner was because the technology wasn't powerful enough to do what he wanted.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

avatar is an actual word. but yeah, avatar (on nickelodeon) is pretty cool.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Avatar is a real word and the movie AVATAR took ten years to make causing the production of the movie to begin before the nickelodeon show.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

are you stupid? that lame ass show "avatar the lat airbender" came out like 20 years after the original book AVATAR was written. the author just wanted to wait until technology was advanced enough so his book would be a good movie production. jeez. know your facts

The only thing I thought of when i read this that captured my attention was that they spelled 'awesome' wrong...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

when i heard that avatar was coming out, i immediately thought of the nickelodeon series because it is truly, awesome. now i REALLY can't wait for the movie XD

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They copied the font. Google up the posters.

Uhm... James Cameron had Avatar planned since right after Titanic...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'd never heard of the Nickelodeon show until I saw the preview for the movie. And even then I was like "why aren't they blue?" even though I didn't like James Cameron's movie.

actually the script for the MOVIE was written a long time ago but they never actually made the movie because it didnt seem possible in that time period whereas now we can actually imagine coming up with those kinds of technology in the near future btw love both!
