+644 It's weird that even though the words "bomb", "tomb", and "comb" have nearly identical spellings, the "o" is pronouced differenty in all of them, amirite?

I failed at spelling "differently". Wow

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha don't worry, I didn't notice before you pointed it out...

Thanks :P I'm just usually a grammar/spelling freak. I guess it just goes to show that if you spell a word somewhat correctly, people still know what you're talking about.

Oh, the joys of the English language.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

english is the hardest language to learn. this is one reason why.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

it's not. it's probably one of the easiest, things don't even have grammatical gender

by Anonymous 13 years ago

comb and bomb have the same "o" in the pronunciation

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't know how you pronouce those two words (accents can certainly make a difference), but I pronouce them "cohm" and "bahm".

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well, "bomb" has no A in it, though, does it?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, it doesn't, but I spelled them how I pronouce them. Through text I can't literally tell you how I pronounce a word, so I purposely misspelled it so you would realize how I pronouced it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

loldudeno i didn't mean it like that, i just mean you pronounce it like that even though bomb doesn't even have an A, so it SHOULD be identical to "comb"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So you're saying therefore that "tomb" SHOULD be identical to "comb" and "bomb"?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Were you even listening? I didn't all of a sudden just randomly say it shouldn't be pronounced differently -- fucking "bomb" has a fucking A sound in it while its spelling says no such thing. There is no hidden meaning in the word, either, to make people pronounce it "bahm" like you say, so wtf. Tomb is fine since it has an O and is pronounced with an OU.
