+226 People say that the Americans were the ones who killed the Native Americans. But it was the British, there were no Americans then, amirite?

Colonial British = Present day American

Immigrants from countries (aside from England) + Colonial British= Present day American. I'm pretty sure that my Korean family, isn't from England...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh yeah, try blame it on the British.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No one I know says it was the Americans. They usually just blame white people...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, the British originally did the killings, but they continued into the 1800s after America had become an independent country.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The killings started in the south west in the mid to late 1400's with the Spanish..not the English

by Anonymous 12 years ago

okay, duh. I knew that. The Spanish of course had the greatest influence in the Americas until the whole armada incident. I meant that, yes, the English did the killings before because Americans did not exist yet, but once the U.S. was an established country, the killings were committed by the Americans into the 1800s. Thanks for making me aware of my mistake.

No, even after America was established there was the trail of tears and Andrew Jackson and stuff.

well technically pretty much all europeans besides the french had a hand in wiping out the native population. but even after the revolution americans kept slowly taking their land. so i'd say everyone is at fault.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Do you say "except the French" because they wanted to convert the Indians?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

no, that's not what i meant, although that DID happen. i meant in terms of violence towards the native americans. the spanish pretty much raped and pillaged, the english took advantage of them and kidnapped them, but the french were the only ones really at peace with them. they traded with them and tried to stop the english from expanding further west into their territory in the french and indian war.

People always say white people, not Americans. Plus, like people already said, Andrew Jackson.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't say either. I just say I hate Pilgrims. But it started with the British, even if it ended with Americans. No one should think we're just trying to blame the British.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes, because America was automatically uninhabited by Natives right after the end of the American Revolution. Have you studied US history at all?
