It's ponderous in Harry Potter how the Muggle-borns (disagreeably also know as "Mud Bloods") buy their school supplies for Hogwarts and know where to get them. They have no wizard money (sickles, galleons) and they can't use Muggle money. AND HOW THE HELL WAS HERMOINE "PATIENTLY WAITING FOR HER LETTER Of ACCEPTANCE TO HOGWARTS" WHEN SHE WAS UNDER ELEVEN, I thought it was a secret :x, amirite?

The voters have decided that oink is right! Vote on the post to say if you agree or disagree.

They probably informed Hermione before she got her letter.
And also they probably have funding for Muggle-Borns.

@oink I don't like your reasoning >:|

ONLY CAUSE YOU KNOW IT'S DA TROOTH.

@oink TRUE DAT

BUT THEY NEVER BRING IT UP

@oink BUT THEY NEVER BRING IT UP

CAUSE IT'S NOT PART OF THE PLOT, NOR DOES IT ENRICH THE PLOT.

i'm sure that being clever hermione knew that her situation wasn't normal(magic reveals itself around the age of 7) and dumbledore would have explained in the letter about getting to the leaky cauldron and exchanging muggle money in her hogwarts letter :) hope that helped. The magic age reference is mentioned in the 7th book y smilie

@i'm sure that being clever hermione knew that her situation wasn't normal(magic reveals itself around the age of 7)...

Magic reveals itself younger than seven, it just took Neville that long because he is "practically a squib". But Neville is made of awesome...

Facepalm. Someone obviously did not read the books. In one of Snape's memories, he explains to Lily that a Hogwarts staff member delivers the letter to explain the wizarding world to the student's parents and show them where to purchase school supplies and how to send their child to school.

So.......you don't like Harry Potter?
IT'S THE MOVIES FOR GODS SAKE! NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO MAKE SENSE! JUST ENJOY IT!

In the second book Hermiones parents are with her in Diagonalley, and they go to Gringots bank to exchange muggle money for wizard money.
How they or she got there the first year, I have o idea.

i just reread the first book last week, and i THINK it said that the magic skipped generations or something, like one of her grandparents were magic and it skipped her parents. but i'm not sure, so don't come complaining to me if i'm wrong, please.

If you check in HBP and DH, you would know that Hogwarts has a wizard come to your house if you are muggle born the first time to show the incoming student how to get everywhere. And I was also wondering the other day how Hogwarts pays tuition or, for that matter, the teachers.
P.S. Hermione wasn't "patiently waiting" to get her letter she didn't expect it at all

Maybe J.K.Rowling was hopeing no one would figure it out the logic behind that. But now that you told the whole interwebs shes probably going to beat you up D:<

Maybe the same way Harry potter and Tom riddle found out and got every thing done

In the sixth book Dumbledore tells Riddle that there is a scholarship fund for people that don't have enough money, but they have to buy everything secondhand. In the the second book, Hermione talks about her parents exchanging muggle money for wizard money. If the child is muggle born, someone brings the letter to them and explains everything. In the seventh book, Ron is willing to help Hermione memorize his family tree because she is completely muggle born. Magic doesn't tend to skip generations like seers, squibs are rare. Hermione was just as surprised as Harry to get her letter. Did you even read the series, or watch the movies. At all?

Also a friend pointed out to me that Harry knew nothing about money either. He's got this valut full of coins but no one really shows him how to budget or even what's worth what. He's 11 for cyring out loud. He shouldn't be in charge of his own money. What is the first thing he does? Spends it on a cart full of sweets for him and Ron. I wonder how they pay tuition at Hogwarts.
