+109 Rap isn't music. It's a guy talking about how hot his girlfriend is, with a beat in the background, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Most of it is, yeah. But there is some really good stuff out there; you just gotta find it.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Example?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

I don't know, I don't listen to it regularly. I've just heard some lol. It's not really my cup of tea though.

Nas, Lupe Fiasco, B.o.B, BIG K.R.I.T, Kanye West (sometimes), Asher Roth, All City Chess Club, Drake (most of the time), Wale(most of the time), Freddie Gibbs(sometimes), Mac Miller, J. Cole, Joell Ortiz, Chiddy Bang, XV. Just to name a few.

I agree. There is a massive difference between mainstream Hip Hop and rap music. Real rap music, actually has a lot depth in the lyrics and a lot of it deals with real life issues compared to your standard Hip Hop song which is mostly hoes and guns.

I love Nas Especially, Hero, it has been my ringtone for 2 years now

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Anything by Lupe Fiasco (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPiKKfcjI-4) Anything immortal technique (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M72zVuBNpEA) Anything Tupac (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8Y9-JlSRXw) You can't even pretend that 50 cent is a rapper. Even eminem isn't that bad.

the beginning of this song... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pgIu6v5zPA

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh! Don't forget the rhyming and the talk of crack and drugs!

by Anonymous 14 years ago

The mainstream rap is crap. But there are some good songs/artists.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

ExampleExampleExample??? I'm not trying to prove my point, I want to know where I can find good rap.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

look up the indiefeed hip hop podcast on iTunes. all i ever listen to.

Flobots.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Most of the time it isn't even his gf, it's "Shawty"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What crap rap hehe are you listening to? Real rap doesn't talk about "Shawty".

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Mainstream-ish stuff, I suppose. The fist examples I can think of right now are Eenie Meenie Miney Mo (or whatever it was called, the one with Justin Bieber and Sean Kingston), and Replay. Though I'm sure there's more. :P

by Anonymous 12 years ago

really? you consider a song that has JUSTIN BEIBER in it rap? And replay? no, I'm sorry. That's not rap.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Okay, you're right. I'd just been naming songs off the top of my head that I kinda thought might be rap. :P I just didn't remember if they were or not, and now I know they're both not. :P

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Definitely not true. But that's just my opinion, you're entitled to yours.

the rapping is good, not to fond of the lyrics? little cheesy

by Anonymous 12 years ago

maybe... it's how you look at it really...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's definitely better than someone rapping about his bitches and his hoes

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I like K.Flay, she opened for a concert I was at and damn this white girl can spit rhymes like crazy!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

And B. Reith

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Lupe Fiasco has some good rap songs in his album Food and Liquor

by Anonymous 12 years ago

There is some rap that has a lot of meaning. A rap song actually made me cry once because it was so sad. I will admit that mainstream rap is usually pretty bad. You just have to find the good rap.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

How disrespectful.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You son of a...MEANIE HEAD. Have you not heard of Eminem?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Try listening to Eminem...most of his songs are about serious stuff, not about hoes and humorous stuff...though he does include humorous rap quite a bit in his earlier songs...that Slim Shady alter-ego has died down a LOT since his first album, after which his songs are far more serious and meaningful..

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's like saying that drama isn't art, it's just a bunch of people pretending to be something they're not.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Check out YouTube underground rappers. Lil Craze, for example. He never curses in his raps. Mars: he may do remixes but he never refers to ladies in a disrespectful way.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

*Lil Crazed Lol I agree though. The youtube rappers are the best.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Nicki Minaj sucks so much ass.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Marshal Mathers. Not Slim Shady.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Sometimes, but not always. Similar things could be said about other music, it's just people singing/being autotuned, generally going on about love, with music or a beat in the background. Same difference, it's all still fun to listen to.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Rap is part of music. If he was just talking it would be spoken word which is also music. Rap is him talking about how hot his girlfriend is with RHYTHM. Plus the beat is music also. Spread your mind, everything is music in its own way. If that weren't true, there wouldn't be ambience or spoken word as genres. Music is HUGE.
