+420 If America wins the World Cup, the rest of the world has to call it soccer from now on, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hell yeah!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

cept, that was a bad deal because.... well, were not gonna win and i dont want to call it football

by Anonymous 13 years ago

or futbol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh look. Stereo typical american wants the entire world to change for us.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

look stereotypical asshole wants to make a big deal out of nothing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

first, we're probably not going to win. honestly. second, we're like the only ones who call it soccer. which doesn't even make sense because we call football, well.. football- and the sport doesn't even use feet.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well, kickoffs and field goals are an exception ;)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We call it soccer because when it was first played, people didn't have shoes so they played wearing just socks. SOCcer.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

actually, the term 'soccer' was coined after a slang corruption of 'assoc.' became common. assoc. is an abbreviation for 'the association of football' which is what americans originally called soccer. it was shortened to assoc. which was then morphed into socca'- eventually becoming 'soccer'. in my opinion though, it would have been much easier to call it football to begin with and be done with it.

A lot of people in South Africa call it soccer...I'm one of them. You guys are not alone =)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Since it's such a long shot (I'm American but it's true), I'd have to say that would be awesome. Maybe just for a year XD

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, because the odds of America winning the Fifa world cup are terrific...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah how about the US switches to the metric system first...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

HELL YEA! lol if we somehow manage to win (like thats ever gonna happen) this would make my life.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm from America and I think it should be called football/futbol. None of this 'soccer' shit

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Same here. It's stupid. :l

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And secondly, as nice as it would be, America stands no chance in hell in winning the world cup. At least, thats the case with the men's team. The women, on the other hand, are a good shot

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So, never?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But the sport is called football... What if we started calling basketball something different and finally wanted to rename it?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We aren't that bad, of course no match for Brazil or Argentina, but we had enough stamina to tie and potentially beat England (if the ref had given us that 3rd point) in that one match where we were losing 0-2 by the second half. All other teams would have lost hope by that point.

Mayb@828862 (thePretender): Maybe England, although that was a lucky shot. Happens. But not Spain, nor Germany, nor the Netherlands, nor France or Italy (despite abysmal performances), nor Portugal, nor Russia, nor Ukraine, nor ... wha? No. NO NO NO.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sure! And the rest of the world wins the World Cup, let's have America call it football! Oh.... wait...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

First off, I agree with the metric system switch. Secondly, it's actually correct for us to call it soccer. Football (american), rugby, and soccer are all related sports grouped under the name football. Traditionally whichever sport a country adopts as a sport first is named football in that country, and the others are given their other name as they begin to be played.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I prefer to name my sports by something linking to the game, football as you kick the ball, basketball as you throw a ball into a basket. Like the Americans I have one exception, American Football, I should call it homos-in-padding-misshapen-testical-ball.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well its always been called s0ccer here in S0uth Africa...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ja, and since we hosted the last World Cup, the rest of the world should call it soccer, not that ''football'' crap.
