you have above average intelligence but you're an under achiever. amirite?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Haha that's what my school counselors always told me XD
by Anonymous13 years ago
I am the definition of "over-achiever"
by Anonymous13 years ago
i doubt this many people have above average intelligence.
by Anonymous13 years ago
orly?
by Anonymous13 years ago
i dont get it what?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Well... I'm smart! Plus this is possibly the last place on the internet that is safe from 12 year olds...
by Anonymous13 years ago
you dont make any sense to me
by Anonymous13 years ago
I'm 12, what is this?
by Anonymous13 years ago
I was going to say the exact same thing. People tend to think they're a lot smarter than they are. If you're an underachiever, chances are you don't really have above average intelligence.
by Anonymous13 years ago
if this many people have above average intelligence, then wouldnt it just be average intelligence?
by Anonymous13 years ago
I've always found it interesting how so many people consider themselves above average.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Sometimes, accurate self assessment can be conceived as vanity. I think that many people on this site are above average intelligence, not for this site necessarily. I mean, not very many unintelligent people want to read so much.
by Anonymous13 years ago
It is rare that you'll ever meet someone who considers themself to have below average intelligence, I think that most people underestimate exactly where the average because they are biased in their own favour.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I agree with you to some extent. However, let me just give you my side of the story. I have straight A's, I'm on the honor society, I get into state championships for things like the spelling bee, and I genuinely enjoy learning. (Not school, mind you, but learning). I believe that, at least in my school, which is a good one, that I have above intelligence. I agree that some people who are not really very smart think they are, but some people have credentials.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Well of course, there are above average people who think they're above average, but there are also a lot of below average people who believe the same.
One could also argue there are different ways someone can be intelligent, people have different strengths in different subjects, I myself am pretty good with numbers, enough that I could claim above average intelligence, but I view myself as below average because of my ability with other aspects of education, which as it happens, come as a result of my being an under achiever.
by Anonymous13 years ago
You make a good point, but I believe that this post was talking about intelligence in general. I agree with your original comment, I just wanted to assert that there are some people here that are above average.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I don't really think there is such a thing as "intelligence in general", that is to say, not in a measurable way.
But we're more or less in agreement here, so let's call it a day.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I have come to the conclusion that both of the aforementioned persons are purposefully and with completely dishonest intent inserting above average vocabulary into their below average conversation. That is all.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Actually, this is how I normally write, and this is the vocabulary that I use everyday. I don't consider it to be "above average". Of course, I can't really prove that, an I also cannot speak for the other person. Also, what about the conversation is below average? Not that I consider it to be a particularly good discussion, but I don't see anything wrong with it.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I was merely referring to the fact that you are both using superfluous and repetitive ideas to convey a simple thought.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I suppose. I just don't see anything wrong with supporting my thoughts.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I'll call myself "Anon 2." @ Anon 1, I disagree with you. I don't necessarily think you are above average intelligence. Most, if not all, believe they are more intelligent than they are. I get straight A's without much effort in HS and do well in ECs, but I believe I am average. Besides, much of spelling bees consist memorizing word stems, patterns, etc. There are people who are talented and intelligent (ex: JD Salinger) who still have perfectly average IQs. Only about 5% of people deviate from the norm, and all the straight A students on the Internet who claim to be smarter than their peers account for far more than 5%. The only solid proof would be to have an actual IQ test.
by Anonymous11 years ago
I'm such an overachiever.
Kind of screwed, actually.
by Anonymous13 years ago
genius under-achievers REPRESENT
by Anonymous13 years ago
I don't under-acheive, but I don't over-acheive. I put in enough effort to keep straight A's.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Straight A's is bigtime overachieving.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Depends where you go to school and what the curve is like. For some people, getting straight A's would be really really easy.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Damnit!
I was gonna post this after seeing it on 4chan.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Like 80% of high schoolers seriously think this... I don't actually buy it. If you're intelligent, prove it! (And getting high grades isn't the only way to prove it, but at least do something!)
by Anonymous13 years ago
I get low grades. My parents think its because I have a brain disorder so they took me to a psychologist to see what was wrong with me. Turns out I have ADHD, and maybe something else they couldn't find. They also tested my IQ, and mine is 123. I'm 14, and I'm qualified as a genius. Even though I get straight C's. Which is why I don't think grades prove how smart you are. The end.
by Anonymous13 years ago
You're not a genius sweetie. Genius is over 164. You're above average.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Wow. My sister lied to me. Hahaha I'm also very gullible which is why I'm not a genius.
by Anonymous13 years ago
It's alright. I'm only a 136. "Superior Intelligence". But they're very unreliable.
by Anonymous13 years ago
And actually, now that I think about it, my old math teacher also lied to me. He was like "my IQ is 130 and that makes me a genius." And several other people said similar things to me.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Actually the definition for 'genius' is 140 iq, buy you were close
by Anonymous11 years ago
No it makes sense that this many people agree.....the reason they are "under acheivers" is cuz they spend wayyyyyyy to much time on amirite and similar internet sites.
by Anonymous13 years ago
None of you realize people can get the worst grades in the world, and still manage to be above average. Grades aren't an accurate way of representing intelligence.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Indeed, grades represent your ability to learn. Most intelligent people can do this well, but it is not directly correlated.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Knowledge is not how good you are in anything you learn in school. In my opinion, I think common sense, wisdom, and knowing when to keep your mouth shut are three factors of intelligence. Basically, if someone has an ability to learn, they can still lack intelligence. You can live an honest life with the above three traits, but without them, you will suffer. Common sense is what makes people respect you. Without it, you look like an idiot. Wisdom is the all important knowledge derived from the past, and you'll end up with a black eye one day if you can't be quiet.
No offense, but the way you typed those two sentences trying to sound smart kind of irritated me. It just seems pointless to show off your vocabulary on the Internet.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Lol, sorry. I'm a freak like that. I like things to be worded perfectly.
by Anonymous13 years ago
No, no, it's fine. I try that too, but I guess I'm too lazy to actually revise what I type. Sorry if that offended you, I guess I was a little tired or something.
by Anonymous13 years ago
It's kay.
by Anonymous13 years ago
The most annoying kind of people are the people who say they're geniuses, but still get bad grades. I don't actually believe anyone who says this because they obviously aren't smart enough to put their intelligence to good use. If school comes so easy to you, why don't you use it to your advantage?
by Anonymous13 years ago
procrastinating ftw!
by Anonymous13 years ago
being smart is overrated
by Anonymous13 years ago
There obviously can't be more above average people than below average, guys. . .
by Anonymous13 years ago
story of my life.
by Anonymous13 years ago
average intelligence
over achiever
by Anonymous13 years ago
By agreeing with this post, I am not saying that I have above average intelligence. I mean, who am I to judge how smart I really am?
By agreeing with this post, I'm saying that I am a HUGE underachiever and in my family, am the epitome of what NOT to do in school.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Anyone who voted YYA does not have above average intelligence. If you were actually intelligent, you would try in school so that you can be successful later in life. Since you don't try, you clearly lack any common sense (AKA you're unintelligent).
