-217 Prostitution should be legalized in the United States, amirite?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

On the contrary, actually, its legalization would contribute to less abuse of women; prostitution is illegal now, so if women get abused by the people they sell to, the police cannot help them and must turn them in despite the circumstances. With it being legal, the government can both cut back on abuse/violence and work towards better conditions for prostitutes (i.e preventing sexually transmitted disease by setting up specific precautions and guidelines.) It would also fund both the womans' life with the proper wages that the government could regulate, as well as boost our dying economy.

and while that all sounds nice it would be showing that prostitution is ok.which no matter how you look at it is wrong. selling yourself for money, also giving up your dignaty and selfrespect, theres nothing good about that.it also gives a bad representtation that woman are only good for sex. if your desperate, go to a shelter. get a small job like helping an elderly person in their home, or a job at a store, walk a dog, clean houses, anything would be better then lowering yourself to being sold . and saving are dying economy is not worth lowering women to be thought of only for sex and turning it into a profession.

Legalizing prostitution will show that sex is acceptable and natural, which is not wrong at all. By criminalizing sex and prostitution we only send the message that sex is dirty and shameful and women who have sex are whorish, slutty, gold-diggers with no dignity or self respect. This idea is also a negative representation of women because it implies that women are worthless if they have sex openly.

With the spread of HIV and other diseases, would that really help anything?

If prostitution were legal STD screening could be required, condom use could be regulated, and the safety of both parties could be ensured.
