+81 My room's colder in the winter. It's safer to overclock a computer in a cool environment cause it won't overheat. Overclocking generates more heat. It's gonna make my computer run faster AND help heat my room. What a great idea, amirite?

My son's been doing that for a while; it seems to work.

Yeah I used to do that, window open, radiator off, overclock city. Fkn freezing, but almost worth it.

I've got a quad core liquid cooled, and I put it up from 2.6 to 2.9. Really, not much difference in temperature

I overclocked a dual core Intel Atom (WOW) to 2.2Ghz, with very little extra cooling equipment. Mind you, it still sucked.

I got my quad core from 2.6 to 3.1 on air cooling. That's where it is atm.

Nice! What kind of temperature does it idle at?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Used to idle at 19c, now days like 23c, guess it's cos it's not so clean down there. Bad airflow. At one point it was idling at 12/13c but I think that was a fault with Speedfan.

I'm pretty sure it's impossible to idle at less than room temperature
