+517 Online dating is stupid, but what if you fall in love with a pen pal? That's different....or is it? amirite?

fell in love with mine :'( my parents freaked out though and ended it... still love him soooo much it hurts , miss him everyday. I know he is there, I am here so I have to focus on my life HERE... but he was the only person I could talk to, the only who listened and cared. Talked for a year, loved him the whole time and even 6 months later I am still hopelessly in love

Why is this on the home page? It's stupid and pointless. You don't fall in love over somebody that you chat with on AIM?

that's not what the poster meant, not just some random dude you met on omegle or AIM, but like, a legit pen pal that you know. not some random pedo. Sadly, long-distant relationships never seem to work out :(

Still... most people don't have a pen pal...

As someone who fell in love with, or at least developed strong feelings for, someone I actually met on Myspace... I can tell you that it does happen. It isn't fair, and I understand your pain and sympathize.

Falling for someone you met through the internet is different than online dating. Most likely, when you meet someone on the internet, you are only hoping for a new friendship. Those who use online dating sites are seeking a romantic relationship, but the healthy way to enter that type of relationship is by becoming friends first. Then, you can decide whether or not that person is right for you without the distraction of flirtation.

That's the reason I broke up with my online boyfriend. Well, one of the reasons. We were originally friends. It ended messy. =/

Why should I restrict myself to dating only people in my area when I've already found the girl who I truly love online? There are more obstactles, but I think if you can communicate (text/phone/video chat) with the person who you actually have a connection with, then you can make it work.
