that's probably because you were probably pretty young, so of course you thought they were harder, as opposed to now when you're older and more experienced.

Super Mario World 1 or 2 was already much, much, much easier than Mario 2 (the real one, aka lost levels) and Maro 3 (Anyone remember world 6 and 7? How about those giant fish in world that could OHKO you even with a super mushroom?). Really most nes games were hard, but in a "keep dying and memorising the level like a monkey, then start at the beginning of the entire game if you die" way, not a good way (mario 3 not so much but still)
