Math helps us in practically everything. Reading helps us in practically everything. Science helps us in making new technology. Social Studies helps us in saving animals. History... we just learn about the past for no reason, as it will never help.

History = Social Studies

by Anonymous 14 years ago

NO

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

History- so we can learn from our mistakes

"History Repeats"

by Anonymous 14 years ago

social studies and hisory are the same thing, where i live at least. and history is important because to know were you are going you have to know were you have been.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

How does that help us in life? Wow I know that people in the Stone Age used stone. Is that ever going to come in handy?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

It will if you find yourself needing to know how to fend for yourself in the wild.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

@45819 (Anonymous): Why? I'm pretty sure that that is just learning a trade. Making weapons.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

You can use stone for more than just making weapons. And if you have the right kind of stone it isn't that hard to turn it into a primitive weapon. You don't really HAVE to learn a trade in order to make a weapon.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Do you need history to know how to make something out of stone?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Those who do not learn the past are doomed to repeat it.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

No they aren't

by Anonymous 14 years ago

QED

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Grrreeeaaaat argument right there. History builds upon itself. If you don't know who or how or why somone did something how do you how expand upon it or learn from it or use it better?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Really? World War II was spawned because of the U.S, Soviets and Great Britians mistakes, therefore history repeats itself. Have we had another world war after World War II? No. Why? Because we learned from history.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Yes they are

by Anonymous 14 years ago

People will repeat the past even if they know it and saw the results.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

We aren't going to go back to making weapons from stone. Unless the world dies.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

when your big brother was a little kid, he burnt his hand on the stove. when you are born and old enough to walk and junk, you waddle on over to the stove, then you remember the time your mom told you bout the stupid stunt your brother pulled and your all like " aw snap! back it up". history. plain and simple.to a T.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Also, how would we know anything about reading, or math or science, if HISTORY wasn't recorded somewhere? America progresses off of history. This post is bull crap.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

How would there not be math? or reading?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

I think history is way more important than math; in the future, I'm going to want to know what those before us have done, not how to use matrices.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

How is what they done going to help?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

history is important or doomed to repeat it thouigh i think the point is that many of what is being taught isnt of actual value and it is covered by what is valuable. for example i do not care for every detail of the native american lifestyle diet ceremonies etc. but learning how their land was unjustly stolen and some of the massacres that took place i find very enlightning

by Anonymous 14 years ago

History is very useful as we can learn from our mistakes in the past, also we can take action to prevent things from happening that isn't good through using the trends in the past as well

by Anonymous 14 years ago

MeilKabot, it's safe to say this post was about as stupid as it gets.. if the people who made history didn't recorded it (in writing) how would we know how to read? if math wasnt recorded (in writing) how would we know all of a numbers functions? therefor< if people just ignored history we would be living in an idiotic society that knew nothing but old stories about either. america could NEVER be what it is today if the history behind it wasn't known to the general public.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

History is important, but why do we need to learn it? I know that some dude created writing. That will help me uhh...?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

If you become a History teacher you'll need it ;)

by Anonymous 14 years ago

(Anonymous):Why are you teaching history to someone? So they have knowledge that will not help them?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Jeesh why is everyone getting so butt-hurt over history and melikabot's comments. Just remember that he/she must be a pompous- ass and get over it. And btw MeliKabot you need to stfu, ok?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

I'll be the mature one and stop posting in here. No need to fight even though I'm right.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

i hate sci. D<

Some laws are put into effect because of things that happened in the past. Gun enforcement and security were influenced because of events like the Columbine shooting and 9/11, and the U.N. was created to prevent another World War. Maybe history isn't interesting FOR YOU, but that doesn't mean it isn't important. Get over it. And I have to ask... Are you trying to be RIGHT or REAL? Because the last thing you said is rather ignorant and seems like you're trying to be right rather than actually accept reality.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

There will never be full peace on earth

by Anonymous 14 years ago

lolz, sounds like someone's failing history..

by Anonymous 14 years ago

History is to teach us of mistakes in the world that people have done, and it just keeps happening, in WW1, Armenian Genocide, WW2, holocaust, then there was Darfur, Rwanda, the same thing keeps happening over and over again, history is there to teach us that we shouldn't be making the same mistakes over and over again.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

i hate it, but yes, history repeats itself. we learn from mistakes. so i disagree. it does help us.
