Christians shouldn't just cherry pick the rules of the Bible they choose to live by according to the prevailing culture of the time; ie opposing gay marriage or extramarital sex, but still be okay with eating a bacon sandwich, amirite?
And you shouldn't just cherry pick passages in the Bible to prove them wrong. If you read the whole thing, you would know the New Testament addressed a lot of the rules from the Old Testament.
mate it was just an example. The idea being, that you should either follow 'the word of God', or not. And if you don't follow the word of God, how can you be a Christian?
Not following every rule of God doesn't mean we aren't Christians, it means we're human! No human since Jesus lived a perfect life. When we sin, we are turning away from God, but He knows that we're going to do it over and over again. We're forgiven. For example, we've all lied at some point. At the time that you were lying, I bet you knew that it was wrong, but you did it anyway. Believing that Jesus died for you and accepting him as your savior makes you a Christian, it's that simple.
The post isn't really about whether you follow every rule of God or not; just that people deliberately pick and choose which ones suit them and which don't.
Lying, as you say, everyone does, and I'm sure most don't make the conscious decision that 'I want to be a liar'.
However the people that turn up to funeral's just to let their families know that 'God Hates Fags' are deliberately choosing to follow -that- part of the bible to the letter, where you can be sure they are breaking some of the other rules laid down, which don't appeal to their stance in modern society (eating pork used as the example here)
I get your point. But Jesus specifically says the only two things you need to worry about are to:
"love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets."
That's all you need to do to be Christian. Clearly you don't understand the concept of Christianity, so stop commenting on the "rules."
Facts: You can't cherry pick parts of the Bible to look at and ignore the rest. Anything out of context can be taken the wrong way.
God told Peter that nothing he made is unclean later in the New Testament (therefore nullifying the rule about eating pork)
The Bible continues to mean the same thing it always has. It's not a set of rules, it's a love story from God to us. Yes, there are people who twist it, but that's an unfair generalization for every Christian
It doesn't contradict itself. The New Testament fulfills the Old Testament, which could seem contradictory if you don't understand it, but it really isn't.
I would agree that parts of some organized religions bring crap, but again that's an unfair generalization. Christianity is about love, not confrontation or hypocrisy or judgment. I just hate when people assume the worst because of one bad example
God is love. Christianity is about showing that love to the rest of the world. But we have a different kind of love because we have a relationship with the creator of the universe. A kind that should dictate everything we do and say so other people will want that relationship.
Atheists can still be nice people, but in a different way.
Did you even read my last post? It says in the Bible, Jesus said it himself, there are 2 important rules. Two. Everything else are just shoot-offs from those. So if you follow those two rules, you are a Christian.
It's not the church changing the rules, it's JESUS! He himself was the one who said it.
Deu 14:8 And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it [is] unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcase.
True, there were dietary laws that deemed certain meats 'unclean', and Noah was warned not to eat flesh that still had blood in it, which would be recommended by many doctors today. You won't be banished from the kingdom by eating an unclean meat, and those laws were put in place for our health reasons. Often times, doctors will recommend a diet low in pork/bacon/ham because of the high triglyceride levels. Eating unclean meats isn't always a sin, but is still harmful to our health.

Both parties are wrong when they do this.

The bible is essentially a big book of rules, which Christians are just adapting to suit their circumstance and society.
The facts are:
1. In the past eating pork was considered unacceptable.
2. Christians are now eating pork, and saying it is not sinful.
3. This condones eating pork as acceptable
4. The bible has been reinterpreted
5. If this is acceptable, the church can reinterpret any thing, depending on the whims of society.

K well if the Bible is that contradictory it's stupid anyway.
I have nothing against people believing in a God but organised religion just brings so much crap to the world.

But surely love is independent from religion?
An atheist is as capable of being a good, loving person as a christian

"Atheists can still be nice people"
Lol cheers I was worried for a second.

PS you're not giving me much neighbourly love Mr Crusader
Who said I was? All I'm doing is trying to show you you're wrong.
This.
i almost gave you a yeah you are, but eating bacon is ok. i think it was Peter that was told by God it didnt matter what you ate....
I phrased that badly :S I think you get the jist
You're right, sometimes Christians do choose which rules to follow/ignore, but eating meat isn't a sin.
Deu 14:8 And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it [is] unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcase.
(pork, not all meat)
