+217 How do the adults in your life expect you to figure out what you want to spend the rest of your life doing, when you're only 16 or 17? I'm sorry mother, but all I'm worried about is growing up too fast, and the pressure you're putting on me is going to drive me crazy, amirite?

Well, umm, you kind of have to choose a major in college

Most colleges only make you choose a major in your junior year. Also, not everyone is going to college.

It's called undecided...

Don't listen to them. I'm going through the exact same thing. It's nerve-racking trying to choose when everyone else seems to have everything figured out.

Amen, sister.

Although the time to choose hasnt dawned on you yet, its always a good idea to have a field of work/ career path in mind because in a matter of years youll probably be making that choice. For instance, I personally went from astronaut (kid), doctor(older kid), psychologist (young teen), pharmacist and botonist(to date). So i really havent set it in stone but i do know that science and helping others are two things that greatly appeal to me. So dont look at it as much as your mother commanding you have your life set, but rather atleast show some proclivity to figuring out what you'd be suited to do. Sorry about the rant, but i wish you the best of luck in life:D.

I think it's good to have plans. Like Jonesy said, it's better to have a general idea of what you like, but if you focus 100% on "staying young" then you lose a lot of opportunities available to young people. I think it's most important to have a balance and start thinking about those choices because they happen a lot sooner than you might think.

Just pick something. It doesn't have to be set in stone. Choose a major or career path and go with it until you are guided somewhere else. It's not that hard.

And this happens even at the age of 13 or 14 - "Son, what do you think you'll go into? I recommend majoring in thermonuclear biology." "Dafuq is that, Dad?"

Get a business degree. It's so vague that it will work for just about anything.
