+234 "Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared." -Buddha. If everyone lived by this quote, the world would be a much better place, amirite?

I never understood that. Sure the candle's total life would not be diminished, but the time it has to just sit and burn without some guy touching it is greatly shortened. Helping people does not shorten your life, but it does shorten the time for yourself. I agree that everyone SHOULD live by the quote, but there are strings attached.

But it's a chain reaction. The first candle can light another, which can light another, which can light another. Sure, you have to part with some of your precious time, but happiness takes effort and sacrifice.

Then that's a single candle can light another which can light another, not a single candle can light a thousand more. The quote implies that that one candle dedicated its entire life to moving around the room lighting another candle and never having the time to 'rest'.

This could also be applied to evil.
