+148 Bands today don't care about their music, like bands in the sixties did. They only care about getting rich and buying cars and electronics; in fact, that's what most of them write about in the songs, anyway. amirite?

Maybe because you only listen to Top 40 bands. I'm pretty certain the bands I listen to aren't doing it to get rich.

although is seems like that, they're musicians because they genuinely like music. they like writing songs about having fun (partying, drinking). i LOVE black ops and i play it all the time, but i'm terrible at it. their music works for their target demographic, be it "douchebags" or 12 year old girls (neutral statement).

there are less mainstream artists than there are non-mainstream artists. most people are anti-mainstream. the "problem" is those people are scattered to more specific tastes.

it's like how NYC and LA are densely populated cities, but most people who live in the US live in neither city.

System of a Down begs to differ

What about hardcore bands, or other bands in small genres who travel the country in a van for 9 or 10 months out of the year? They make almost no money but still do it because they love it

It doesn't matter what era you're in, poeple are still gonna love music enough to create meaningful songs, and do everything they can to play their music to others.
