yeah. i think boxing is a sport. but personally i dont think dance, gymnastics, and cheerleading are. they are very difficult, but not sports. competitive activities. I also think track and field are sports.

I dont understand how you can make the argument that dance/gymnastics/cheerleading are competitive activities, and then say track and field arent?

Can someone explain to me how gymnastics isn't a sport? Because I've spent my whole life under the impression that is it. Gymnastics IS a sport.

So extreme sports aren't sports? Pfft.

Sport: Noun:
An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others.
People who have the mentality that sports should all conform to a certain criteria are very frustrating. How would having a ball validate one sport more than the other? It's irrelevant.
by Anonymous12 years ago
If that is the only characteristic of a sport, everything becomes a sport. Competitive jacks? Painting? Cooking? Getting dressed while blindfolded? Those are obviously not sports yet they would fit your definition
by Anonymous12 years ago
None of those things really require physical exertion, do they? I do see the point you were trying to make, but frankly I think people are too close-minded about the word 'sport' and what it entails.

Swimming?

This is like saying 'most real foods require you to chew and swallow.'
A lame post made just to get voted up.

Crew is the best sport that doesn't require any of those things :)
