+311 it's weird how movie theatres charge more at night than during the day. It's the same movie, so why should I pay more just because I showed up at a different time? amirite?

They're just capitalizing on people who would rather see the movie at a later showtime, which is often the teenagers and young adults. Versus the people who will choose to see the movie at an earlier time if it means it saves them money.

Generally where I live new movies premiere at midnight and it seems like there is a new movie every week or fortnight.

the same reason costumes cost more in october rather than in march more people are gonna go at that time, so might as well increase the price. if they increased the price for day time showings alot less people would show up but if they increase price for night showings the theatres will still be packed

OP doesn't understand the concept of supply and demand.

People who go to movies tend to have less money. Kids, unemployed people, retired seniors living on a fixed income, etc - therefore the market price for a movie has to be lower, or they won't fill the seats. Then they can charge more for the people at night, as they have more money but don't have the option of seeing it in the day.

It's not weird. It's supply and demand.
