+447 The punishment for texting while driving should be getting your license taken away for a few weeks. It's really not that different from drinking and driving, amirite?

What's the current punishment?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ticket if they can prove it. Which is why I chuck my phone in the backseat when I see those glorious lights.

I think they should both be harsher. It's fucking retarded. How many people have to die a year before law people grow a brain and crack down on it?!

If they're going to make texting while driving illegal, they might as well make eating, smoking, changing the radio/mp3 player, etc. illegal as well. They're ALL distractions.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah but texting actually involves taking the majority of your concentration off of the road because you are forming a thought while taking your eyes off the road and occupying one or more hands

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well.. eating, smoking, changing the radio all take one or more hands. And do take your eyes off the road for even a very minuscule amount of time.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah but you still arent forming a thought, which makes a big difference

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not really. You are still thinking when you are changing the radio. Deciding if you like the channel. Cigarettes are freaking drugs that impair oneself. Eating isn't all that bad until you drop something or spill something..

For me to send a text, I simply glance at the received text, type my reply while watching the road, and quickly glance at my message to make sure it's correct before I send it. I'm not sure how long everyone else stares at their cell phone while forming a message, but that's how I do it. For me, it's about the same as smoking or changing the radio or something.

its been proven that texting is a huge cause in accidents. I was in a bad wreck may '09 and dude that hit me did so because he was texting. My lawyer says we're using his phone records to prove it in court and apparently using phone records to prove whose at fault and whatnot is really common cuz....phones cause a shitload of accidents.

Texting while driving is actually worse. I don't see why people can't just wait til they get to a stop light or something.
