It is called a lucid dream. They're rare but totally awesome.

You can train yourself to be aware of your dreams and control them. I got to have that experience during a nightmare, it was awesome.

Its called lucid dreaming. With practice you can control your dreams. I'm still practicing. They are pretty cool tho.
