+285 The way we measure weight adds to the stereotype of the fatass American. Since one kilogram equals 2.2 pounds, we sound way fatter to foreigners. It the same as how you might think that 100 kilometers per hour is really fast, but it's just 60mph, amirite?

I think you mean 1 kg equals 2.2 pounds... but yeah your basic point is spot on, especially since hardly anyone in a metric country actually knows the conversion off the top of their heads. I know I had to look it up.

Yeah, thanks for catching that mistake. I did the same thing when I typed it into Google to make sure I remembered the conversion right.

It doesn't really sound like that much if you're not ignorant and realize that there are measurement systems other than your own. I think Americans are more likely to think this way.

lol. geographical location directly effects thinking patterns

"145 lbs you say? Well I only weigh 65kg, as 145 is more than double 65, so you must be obese."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not really. Everyone I know realizes that kg's and pounds are different, so that isn't the reason there is the stereotype of fat Americans. I think you're just making excuses.
