+211 320 gb external hard drives sell for under $100. So why can't anyone make an mp3 player with even half that memory for a similar price? amirite?

320 GB for $100ish? I found a 2 TB external hard drive for 80$.

Marketing makes up a lot of that price.

My iPod is 160 GB. Half the memory

maybe because there is more to an ipod/mp3 than just a hard drive

harddrives consume a lot of power. a 320gb mp3 player with a hard disk would last for probably an hour or two. Even apple is abandoning the ipod classic pretty soon. It is sad that we can't carry our entire music collections, but between the improvements in flash memory and cloud storage i think hard drives will be a thing of the past. Anyway here's a 250gb media player for $250 http://www.amazon.com/Archos-70-Internet-Tablet-Black/dp/B00422XOEG/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_0

they can play music, have camera's, touchscreen, millions of apps, games, wifi/3g/4g connection, face to face chat etc. If you want to pay less, don't buy the latest model because a lot of stores are overstocked, or you could buy it just before the new one is released when there are sales

Because if they can get you to pay $200 for an iPod, they will. And obviously they can.
