-412 Surely I'm not the only person who gets annoyed when people say 'twenty ten' instead of 'two thousand ten'. It sounds ignorant, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I say twenty ten, the same way I say nineteen ninety one or fifteen forty five. If anything two thousand ten sounds more ignorant to me as it breaks the convention, but I find both acceptable.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, but you also have to consider the fact that last year we didn't say 'twenty o'nine'

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, but perhaps we should have.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hmm, perhaps not =) But we should at least be consistent. I wonder if people in other countries have this huge dilemma as well.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know people who said it that way.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I do think it sounds weird but I don't think it makes them sound "ignorant".

by Anonymous 13 years ago

OP is ignorant.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually I'm very intelligent :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

intelligence and ignorance are not always completely connected. Everyone is ignorant about something unless you claim to know everything in the world there is to know.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree :) Post that. Seriously lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think twenty-ten is snappier and saves time. Saying Twenty-oh-nine sounds weird, but saying two-thousand-nine was kind of weird as well. Personally I like the shorter way, the way we've always said it. I mean, one-thousand-nine-hundred-ninety-nine? Not a chance.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Does it really matter which we say...? :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Were you also offended when people said "nineteen" in the 20th century, or did you want them to say "one thousand nine hundred and ..." YOU are the ignorant one.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You act as if you are the first person to tell me this. I said it sounds ignorant, not that they are ignorant. You can't call me ignorant if you don't know me :) I'm actually quite intelligent if I do say so myself. What age are you, kiddo, like 14?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My thoughts exactly

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It is correct to say 20 10 because you don't say one thousand nine hundred ninety-nine.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Clearly, OP doesn't know the definition of "ignorant"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Again, I said 'sounds ignorant' not 'everyone who says it is an ignorant hillbilly'. And yes, I would say a high school graduate would know what ignorant is :) You a freshman or something? Lol just kidding, friend.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

hahaha you are the one making it such a big deal!! "im intelligent!" seriously? grow up.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not a big deal :) This site is called Amirite for a reason. I had an idea about something, and I posted it to see if anyone agreed with me. It wasn't meant to be snarky, just an opinion. People getting all crazy over the internet, oh it's funny. Sounds like you're the one who has some growing up to do :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're taking everyone calling you ignorant quite well, I admire that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're an ignorant fag

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Says the one who is calling me ignorant over the internet anonymously. Hmm who's the fag? :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

P.S. - Girl's can't be fags lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

so does that mean in 1999 you were the ignorant one saying the year was "onethousand nine-hundred ninety nine"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Nope, I was seven doing normal things seven year olds do. You know, hopscotch and such. Hey, random fact though - in some languages they do say the whole thing. For example, in Spanish, they don't say "Diecinueve Noventa y Nueve" (Nineteen Ninety Nine). They say "Mil Novecientos Noventa y Nueve" (One Thousand Nine Hundred Ninety Nine). I wonder why we don't do that in English? That would be weird! Lol but I guess it's just what you're accustomed to :)
